hitter, One mistake that I can think of is failing to plan for accidents or screw-ups. If something goes wrong, it's time, effort and money to fix the error, and it reduces your enjoyment of the project. In my earlier years, an old mentor drilled into me the maxim "Failing to plan ahead is exactly the same as planning to fail." Always consider what might go wrong, and plan accordingly. But be flexible and adaptable. Sometimes money or time can be saved, if you're willing to change your plans as you go along, or if you need to fix a problem. Good luck! sumgai

i agree w/ sg. also, i would include this in practicing on a spare piece of wood. the first fretboard i did(on the bass that was stolen) wasnt very good. this is because i didnt plan ahead enough, and i didnt know what i was in for. the new one for the remake bass? looks and plays great. dont expect your first one to be your best, but at the same time, it may end up meaning the most....
