I know this goes against the personal philosophies of most folks here, but I thought this was pretty slick. Being a bass player I usually picked an instrument with the feel I wanted, used the amp and cabinet to get the tone and stuck with it, while all the guitar players I knew had a stable of different guitars to cover the range of tone they'd need. Provided you liked the feel of your guitar, this type of system, to me at least, seems like a Godsend. Not that I'm endorsing or marketing these, but you can check out all the different pickguard configurations here. But take heart...at least you can do all the shielding of the cavity yourself... Well, it only looks as fast as a Nascar pit stop because they sped up the footage.
(Actually, having worked in the pits for a Nascar team, I can tell you a stop actually goes a lot faster than it seems to on television.)
This sort of "quick-change" setup is nothing new. The Dan Armstrong guitar (now being reissued by Ampeg, I believe) had 6 individual pickups that could be slid in or out, to give different sounds. No loosening of the strings or removal of pickguard screws needed.
The problem I have with this "switch the pickguard" approach is that loosening strings, removing the guard, and replacing it all take time. Not to mention that, after removing and replacing that guard about a dozen times, you're going to strip out one or more of the screws.
And repeatedly loosening the strings can't do anything good for string life either, particularly when you see how the tech guy has to jockey the strings around to replace the guard even when they're loose.

Well I was sitting here thinking that these were a novelty at best without much in the way of practical application, it struck me that the quick connects lend themselves to a whole guitar modding subculture . Heck, they'll probably even have their own forum someday. ;D ;D -lpf3
