sumgai has hit the 3,500 post count! ... I know that some of those are newey posts during the early days of, uh, administrator hood ... administratordum ... minstral cramps? ... whatever! Anyway, some were newey posts (fantastic job as administrator, by the way, newey ) but to be fair, sum of sumgai's posts are good enough to have a 2 for 1 value, so I figure it still works out to 3,500. Congratulations, sumgai. Now let's all party-arty-arty til ... woo ... hang on while I catch my breath. D2o

Whoa...congratulations, sumgai.
And I think what goes with this is quite a bit of gratitude from all of those you've helped out with your vast store of knowledge. I know you've straightened me out on a number of occasions... (and I owe ChrisK, and many others here, more then a few good cigars as well...)
This is what makes this forum so strong. Very knowledgeable people who are more then generous to share what they know with whoever asks...and a sense of humor to soften the blows...
Thanks for letting us pick your brain.
Happy Trials
Cynical One
PS: And if your wife asks...we'll say we haven't seen you...

Ha! +1 to D2o for that one, despite misspelling minstrel. ;D ;D
And Congrats to Sumgai on the 3500 posts. I don't think more than a handful were mine, RH got the Admin thing straightened out in a couple of weeks, and in the meantime I still mostly posted under my own name.

Ha! +1 to D2o for that one, despite misspelling minstrel. ;D ;D Thanks, newey. I am not sure where I was going when I made that up, but as I look at that mandolin (I think?) in your avatar, "minstrel" would have been right on.

Well, I'm certainly not going to lie for anybody. Your marital issues are your own to deal with. Anyway, thanks for everything sumgai, we've missed you. And D2o, I'm pretty sure that's a guitar which had a nasty encounter with a saw...and a paint sprayer. There's no accounting for...something.

Yeah, I neither play nor own a mandolin. And I wish I had a paint sprayer. Actually, it was Krylon rattle cans. But D2o knows that already, we had that conversation a while back. "Mandolin" was just a shot across my bow on D2o's part.

Yeah, I neither play nor own a mandolin. Aw heck, it's tuned just like a left handed guitar! Well, an octave up, with the high strings where the low strings should be. Take the chords (and scales) you know, leave off the two high strings, and play them upside down.

I think I'd have to stand on my head like Gomez Addams before I could wrap my mind around that. But wait, what if it was a left-handed mandolin? And I played it righty? Gee, Eastwood makes a lefty Mandocaster . . . . Hmmmm.

I think I'd have to stand on my head like Gomez Addams before I could wrap my mind around that. That would be cool! Then the cutaway is on the wrong side. How's about you just break that nut loose, flip it around, and glue it back in? Course, mine's a teardrop like your guitar, so I can string it any way I darn well please.

Gee, there's a tear in me eye...... So, besides the thanks for the support, I'll let you all in on a little secret..... this is what I do for a living: Now you know why the other half was so upset about how much time I was spending away from her! Again, much grass! sumgai

Okay, first everyone had to take their shots at my orange guitar. Now, you're all envisioning me in a blond wig. I guess I should just shut up now and hope this thread drops quickly to page 2. Or maybe I need to change my avatar . .

Well, that's one vote . . . For you, lpf- I may have told the tale before, but briefly, it was a red Washburn Idol prior to the radical bilateral boutectomy. The body shape ended up being asymmetric due to the need to keep the existing control cavity intact. Sort of like a pumpkin that grew laying on its side. The idol is kind of a weird guitar but a good basis for modding. It's rear-routed with 2 HBs and LP style wiring, but it also has a 6-screw vintage TremeLeo, which I replaced with a Wilkinson. Idols can be had for $150-ish, the cheap Asian ones anyway. This one, I got the stripped-out body and neck for $35 on Ebay. But I may buy another for modding, although the body on it will probably avoid the blade . . . It plays OK but the generic HBs I used have to go. One more project for down the road . . .

Wait a minute now - I like your orange guitar . lpf3 Hee hee hee. I didn't know my little jab at your home-made "Les s Paul Custom" (" less" only in size) was even going to be noticed, much less inspire a whole other discussion. I'm with lpf3, by the way. Any project that eventually produces a functioning stringed instrument is a good project. I like it. D2o

Thanks for the pic , newey .
I know you've posted the description of that guitar before but I've never seen a close up shot of it . Looks like a good job of woodworking & that assymetrical part just adds to its unique-ness . And the orange is not that unlike my Butterscotch Blonde Tele . ( heh heh, speaking of blondes )
You've got a project well done there .
