Funny, that...
On my 6-String acoustic, it's the only string i've ever snapped. (excepe the time when i ran out of G's and put a B string in its place, which also snapped...)
On my electric, too... what is it with the G?
(no rude jokes, please, it's boring now)

I broke a G on a 12 string that I just bot used. www.schecterguitars.com/index.aspIt's the CSH-12 It's OK tho' since I bot it to turn into a 6 string (it has a 1 3/4" nut width). It'd probably be easier to break the other 5 than to take them off anyway. I don't have nearly the problem with string breakage on my Variax 12 string models. Anyway, for $275 I got a semi-svelte, semi-modifiable, semi-hollow guitar that I can play when I drive to work out of state. No amp required. (And it has coil tapped/shunted pickups to boot for when there IS an amp aboot.)

andy... I hear thats the achilles heel of 12 string guitars. Yeah, I'm not surprised! I've only owned one 12 string, but that high G seems like too fine a string to keep tuning or hold enough tension. I would have tried a heavier gauge on it, but as the truss rod was busted it didn't seem worth trying. I might just set that guitar up for 6 string slide playing- at least the action would be right!
