Here's the soundclip from my newly-finished P-bass project. It has not yet been intonated or properly set up- I just eyeballed everything and strung it up for testing, it's heading in to see the tech later today for definitive set-up. (I'm too lazy to do it myownself.) The clip is 4 short parts: 1) Both pickups in parallel 2) Both series 3) EMG Select P-Bass pickup only 4) Diesel single rail Strat pickup. This was recorded DI to my Lexicon USB interface, no EQ or effects, strictly a dry signal. It would probably sound much "bassier" if I miked my amp for recording, but the lawncare service was mowin' and blowin' outside my window, so all you would have heard would be the weed-whacker! I've got this strung with flatwounds, .045-.095. The clip is played with a pick. The Strat rail pup is mounted beneath the pickguard, and has therefore much less output than the P-bass pup. I may go back at some point and convert it to 2 Vol controls so the relative levels could be adjusted. www.drivehq.com/folder/p6218168.aspx

Ooooo...sound clips...nice...
It seems the SC pickup does more to enhance then stand on its own. I think you're on to something with the additional volume control.
Nice job...and work on the fingers thing...after all, this is a bass you're playing there, son...
+1 for following up with the sound clips.
Happy Trails
