Greetings -
I recall reading somewhere here about using USB cable to wire a guitar...but the search-fu doesn't like words under 3 letters...
Anyone remember what the deal was? Do I need to do anything with the shielding inside of the cable if I'm only using one wire in the 2 pair set?

c1,
That was suggested by D2o, several months ago. He thought it'd help because it's very small diameter, many if not most guitarists have more than one spare USB cable laying around, and even if not, it's cheap.
Me, I personally find it too small to work with comfortably, but to each his own. You can strip off the shielding if you want, or you can use it as the signal return carrier, makes no difference. If you're careful, you can separate the two pairs out, wherein either one or both pairs will be unshielded. If you're using this strictly within a well-shielded guitar, then having the braided shielding around the pair is probably not necessary.
