I've got a theory I'm considering trying out, but I just wondered if anyone has tried this themselves...or if they have any words of advice or warning.
To backup a bit, I have two veneered guitar bodies, one a pimento burl wood and the other a Birdseye maple. Anyone who's ever worked with burl wood knows about the voids inherent with burl wood, and for some reason the birdseye maple cracked on me after the wood dye was applied.
I've already put 4 coats of paint (edge burst) and around 12 coats of clear lacquer on both. After sanding I still have voids left in the pimento wood and the cracks are not completely gone from the birdseye maple.
My theory is this: As winter has closed in on me I can't spray anymore lacquer. I can use a small brush and apply shellac to the effected areas to build them up and sand accordingly over the winter until the final coats of clear lacquer go on in the spring.
The basis for this theory is that lacquer uses an acetone solvent and shellac uses an alcohol solvent. One should not effect the other by being under or over the other.
Any comments are more then welcome.

Thanks SG. The one comment in that thread "One good coat is all you need. Too thick and it can lead to pre-mature cracking/crazing down the road." pretty much shoots the theory in the head.
Well, back to the drawing board...

Kyle, I spoke with your mother, who contradicts your buttertion that you're okay and confirms that - just as the rest of us have always suspected - you are both cracked and crazed. D2o
