DP-02CF Portastud (Mislabeled) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D At least they're consistent in their description of the studly nature of this product. Sometimes, words have meanings.............. ;D ;D ;D A friend of mine was visiting home in Germany over the holidays. They found some "vintage reissue" chocolate candy (RedStar) that contained "Willy's, jubblies and bottoms." They didn't know what a Willy was, but the boxes were marked "For sale everywhere except the U.S.A." They brought 7 boxes back. ;D ;D ;D

So will recording with this unit give me a more studly sound? And will imported chocolate help? Inquiring minds want to know.

Why not?
If you add some IO to it, it becomes the studIO model.

Sort of like coin collecting, where a mistake by the US Mint, coupled with poor quality control, results in a collector's frenzy. But if the Mint's QC is really bad, and they release thousands of "error pieces" (as they are called by collectors), then they don't have much value as they aren't scarce enough.
But the US Mint is not Tascam, and a coin has no internal parts. So if Tascam's quality control is poor enough to let these out with bad labels on them, how close are they checking the internals??
I wouldn't feel studly at all if, after paying $300 for this thing, it crapped out after a week.

Well, it's an "oh crap" no matter how you look at it.
But it isn't the only reason for the low price (these used to be $499 and the version w/o the internal amp/effect modeling was $399 - both are street prices). I bought 2 of these a few years ago when they first came out (one was for a co-worker) as I got the price down to $389 each.
It's ok for the price.
The version w/o the internal amp/effect modeling is now $199 in the latest MF print catalog (expires end Feb08), so the $100 offset remains the same.
The portastud (error/ploy/who cares) moniker actually has no relationship to price.
You have to admit, far more folks will pay far more attention than they would have before!
BTW, the MF catalog code is 8AS87000Y

They didn't know what a Willy was, but the boxes were marked "For sale everywhere except the U.S.A." I know what a Willy is... But sometimes I call it my Portastud... ;D
