Hi, I have a suhr v60 single coil pup and a seymour duncan little 58(a strat single coil sized humbucker). I'm thinking of putting one of them into the neck position of a cheap tele I have. String spacing seems to match. I'll have to enlarge the hole in the scratchplate.
Is it better to attach the pup to the scratch plate or screw it into the body(tonally speaking)
I would add that I've no interest in making it sound like a strat. I'm hoping that the fact that they are both quality pups will enhance the tele sound, or if it makes the neck pup a little more dark and jazzy that would be cool too.
I'd love to hear thoughts and comments from anyone that has done this.
thanks

treguiers- You could simply remove the metal cover of you existing pup to get sort of a "preview" of what it will sound like. I have a RW/RP Strat middle pup in the neck position of my Tele & really like it. I wouldn't say that it makes the sound "a little more dark & jazzy" but it does make it clearer, with some different overtones; which is what you'll get if you remove the metal cover. I still get that Tele style "honk" when both pups are selected but the neck pup alone is alot like a Strat....... FWIW. Also , while Your mileage may vary, with my guitar there was a certain amount of compromise with the string spacing, especially at the outer E strings. Nothin' to get excited about. Experiment- & enjoy, it's definitely worth doin' IMO, & worth hearing the difference. -lpf3
