Anyone in this forum share my love for the music of Dion? Dion DiMucci, that is... usually credited as Dion & The Belmonts, even on recordings without The Belmonts. (A cute record label thing.) DooWop king from Belmont Avenue in the Bronx and recently an acclaimed acoustic bluesman.
"The Wanderer" "I Wonder Why" "Runaround Sue" "Abraham, Martin and John" "Lonely Teenager" "Born to Cry" "A Teenager in Love"
You know the guy, right? Well I just wanted to let everybody know that he's still around and regularly posting on Facebook. He shares his (arguably oldschool) political and religious ideas, and interesting photos and facts about rock n' roll history. I think he's just getting into computers, and he got a scanner yesterday. I consider it a very cool opportunity to actually communicate with a rather legendary performer who I actually consider one of my absolute favourites. Thought I'd mention it here in case anyone else would find that interesting.

I just discovered that there is also a Dion signature Martin Guitar. Gonna be very hard to stop thinking about it. Check this out! I love it! It's even called The Wanderer. www.diondimucci.com/dguitar.html

No question about his influence, in so many areas. I would argue that "Ruby Baby" is the first melding of Jazz and Rock, setting the stage for so many acts in that genre. Donald Fagen covered that on his solo album, "The Nightfly", and the song has clearly influenced him.

Here's a cool interview I just found, if you're interested. He mentions "Ruby Baby." Lennon liked it, too. www.furious.com/perfect/dion.htmlIf you're on Facebook, look him up as Dion DiMucci. He posts things pretty much every day, I think. Lots of cool old photos, posters.

...I try not to let you worry me, C1... Hey, I took my Mom for her Birthday... Granted, the first time I went I was wearing a ski mask and sunglasses...but it was a surprisingly good show. I would honestly recommend it to anyone if it comes into their area. And no, I still don't own a Four Seasons album...or CD...or download...my Rage Against the Machine and Nine Inch Nails stuff would just corner it and kick the crap out of it if I did... HTC1

They were all great songs...i got a story about 'the wanderer'...
I used to work kitchens in the city (melbourne) and one of the guys there (italian) had "The Wanderer" as his theme song as he'd drive around in the great big boat of a Valiant with his arm out the window, winking at the pretty girls on the street (lygon street of course, for locals)...
When I say 'the wanderer' was his theme song, I mean that was his only song! He recorded it end to end on both sides of a cassette and had it permanently running in his car and would be singing under his breath a lot of the time as well...
So, one night, I get into work early in the centre of town, and there is something going on, some major incident had occurred. 'The wanderer' had gone missing it seemed for the evening...
It was the night of the infamous police HQ bombing (russell street)...and yes, 'the wanderer' happened to be driving past...
So, I know the soundtrack to that event...
"I'm the kind of guy that will never settle...BOOM!!!!!"
"the wanderer survived with slight lacerations to the arm (that was of course hanging out the window) and for all I know, 25 years or so later, 'the wanderer is still on 'constant rotation'...true story!

Wow, what memories........ Some 22 odd years ago I ran the sound for BMG record's UK in house conferences, and this particular year we were in Jersey, channel Islands. The star act for the company was, 'Dion and the Belmonts', Got to chat with Dion between sets, etc. A majic moment in my life experience. The show was exceptional, more so because it was for just 50 or 60 invited people. Nice....

cynical1Hmmm, there you are typing your Dion diatribe and all because his music is ... old? Maybe decades from now you'll be on a message board and see someone type - "Nine Inch Nails ?? They are so twentieth century !!!"

Wolf -
Actually, my point was that the generally assumed "G" rated content would be mugged by the more criminal essence of the other bands...
A similar thing occurred when I first got married...I found my Lou Reed albums trying to push my wife's David Cassidy record off the shelf...my Zappa albums were goading them into it I think...

PS: I am old... have room to judge...

cynical1Yeah, I'd say it was the age references that bothered me a bit. Of course now that you said that you're no longer a part of the Pepsi™ generation, that makes me feel better.
