I must confess to being a little surprised that no one here has noted the recent passing of legendary Gary Moore. www.gary-moore.comAny speculation as to who will pick up and carry the torch?

I had read it so often on all kinds of forums I probably thought it had been mentioned everywhere...really hit the right spot when he came back with his blues albums and brought back the sound of the Les Paul...a great player for sure.
Take his place, well everyone is unique. There is always a new pretender for the blues crown though, Joe Bonamassa certainly has the publicity machine going!

^^^^^ No, no, no. I meant "The Torch", the magic Les Paul, formerly owned by Peter Green - who's gonna "inherit" that piece of history/gold/magic/be-all, end-all?

Well, I'm more curious about what's going to happen to Stripe. I wonder if Ronnie Montrose will get the guitar back. The lawsuit certainly didn't help... As far as Pete Green's old Les Paul...I recall something I read a few years ago that he had sold it. I liked Gary Moore's music...I have about everything he ever did, but as a person I always felt he left a bit to be desired...but I didn't have to live with him... Happy Trails Cynical One

Well, Gary Moore sold Peter Green's LP in the early 2000's. Apparently he hit a financial "rough patch." It's exchanged hands, and apparently Gibson has it's hands on it, making a Gary Moore Signature. Personally, I would like Peter Green's name on it, but I suppose Moore played it more years than Green.

Well, do tell. I didn't know that GM had let it go. Shows how far behind the times I am!

Further...... It would appear that I am woefully undereducated. Sigh. The Innerwebs tell me: GM never released any details about how he acquired Stripe, but Ronnie Montrose filed his "stolen property" lawsuit in early 2007 - something like 37 years later. It was finally dismissed for lack of personal jurisdiction - California courts don't have much say about citizens of Great Britain. I'm thinking that GM's estate will have no problem disposing of the guitar, without any flak from RM. Even if an American buyer gets it, and it returns to US soil, I don't think RM will have a chance at it. But the Courts are not compelled to follow any kind of reason or logic - they have done strange things before, as we all can attest to. But hey, I'm not following this at all - after all, it's only a Les Paul, it's not like it's the very first Strat ever made, or anything actually valuable like that. ;D sumgai

I remember when the whole thing with Stripe started back in the early 70's. Montrose was playing with Edgar Winter and the guitar was stolen off the stage between sets. Ronnie allegedly stopped the show, had the lights turned on and had everyone do a search for the guitar...needless to say it never surfaced. I doubt Gary Moore knew he was buying a stolen guitar, but the evidence was overwhelming that the guitar in question was one in the same as the one stolen from the stage of the Winters show. Montrose made attempts to contact Moore and advise him that he'd like his guitar back, but none of his messages were returned. Hence the aforementioned lawsuit...which cost him a helluva lot more then the the guitar and still yielded no guitar. That whole incident really colored my perception of Gary Moore from that point forward. As I recall Ronnie bought the guitar from J. Geils for around $700-$800 dollars. At least the estate should give him his $800.00 back... Ronnie sums it up pretty well here. Happy Trails Cynical One

So I'm not really intrigued or anything here...... In my previous research, I ran across a forum that discussed this lawsuit, starting in May of '09. Six posts up from the bottom of the first page, a poster named Rosskolnikov states "I'd love to see Gary make a pass at (Brad Paisley's) Time Warp". Well, we all know what the Innerwebs are for, right? Off I go to YouTube-land, and whaddya know, this Ross guy was correct. Dig it: Not to derail my own topic or anything, but Brad's got it goin' on. Not to mention that pedal steeler in the back, that dude's ferocious! Hell, if I weren't prejudiced against young whippersnappers, I might go so far as to compare Brad to Jimmy Bryant. It could be, it could be...... It all just goes to show ya, as soon as you hang a label on sumpin', they go and change the rules on ya. Might not seem fair, but my ears ain't complainin'. ;D sumgai

I changed it to a link Also, about Brad, I've said since his first couple of hits that he's the most legit guy in country right now. I would probably do the whole crossroads thing for his chops....

Alright, here's where I get a little mixed up in the myth:
Can the devil play any guitar belonging to me, and then I can play any guitar? Additionally, do I need him to play an electric AND an acoustic? Is an amp needed? Does he provide his own picks? Also, I know you have until you're 27 years old, but is there a way to shoot to fame faster, so you can be in the spotlight longer?

Not to derail my own thread again, but didn't you mean Vince Gill (also no fly-by-night player in his own right)? So far as Google knows, BP hasn't appeared at EC's Crossroads Festival, at least not yet. sumgai

Confusing, isn't it? Even more confusing is that that's probably not even the right crossroads anyway . . .

Hey Kyle. Sssssmite!
Ah, Vince Gill. Alright, so there's two legit guys in country ATM. My dad always tells me about seeing Vince Gill way back when. He said it was at some sort of country fest, and that Mr Gill was scheduled for a 45 minute set. It was pouring rain, tons of lightning, mud up to your eyeballs. Mr Gill went on, even though he was advised not to, finished his normal set, did a set of PPL songs, then did another set of any rock/country rock/southern rock song you could think of. 2 hours later, being covered in rain and mud himself, he finally called it a day.
Oh, yes, I know he can rip a guitar.

I must confess to being a little surprised that no one here has noted the recent passing of legendary Gary Moore. www.gary-moore.comAny speculation as to who will pick up and carry the torch? Me!!! Since I'm from Belfast and so was he!!! Only joking ;D Gary did some metal, but reverted back to blues, had he stayed more heavy rock/metal I'd probably have got into him a little more. May be I'll get into him now who knows??? I watched a show dedicated to him after his passing and his relationship with Phil Lynott was well documented, it was fascinating and I have to say it taught me quite a bit about Gary and I think I was more in awe of him than before. So I'll pay my respect to him now: Gary you were a legend, you went to early man!!! But your music will live on R.I.P
