Have a listen to my latest cover song: Now, Brian Ritchie, the Femmes' bass player is one of my top 5 or so, along with The Ox, Jaco, Bruce, et al. The bass carries most of the tune in the original. But I wanted to swamp it out with some guitar for reference, here is the original:

I'm gettin' a cramp from all the +1's I'm dolin' out here...
I must admit to never having been much of a Femmes fan... I listened to the original first...which confirmed my recollections...
You've taken an art rock song and given it some balls.
I like it.

heh, I only do these for the karma You probly have to be in the right place at the right time to get into the Femmes (I was in high school in the 80s) Here is a song from them that has probly my favorite bass line and bass solo of all time:

JFrank, Well, I'll say that the line played by the bass was well crafted, but the tone - GAH! Sounded more like a standard guitar that had been down-tuned a couple of notches, without paying much attention to the final tuning..... And that singer? I wanna know what he did with the money. I won't post a "reply video", that'd be like shooting fish in a barrel, and you don't deserve that. We'll forgive you this time, provided you make up for it with another vid, preferably doing one of your own compositions. (Hint: take the Red pill.....)sumgai

...Here is a song from them that has probly my favorite bass line and bass solo of all time: Man, just give sg more ammunition to shoot at the bass players... OK, it was high school and the 80's musical landscape had its forgettable moments...but man, are there really enough drugs in the world... I'll give you a pass on this one, too. I was cool with the first one, as an example of before and after...but I've got my eye on you... Don't make me post the Yoko Ono videos... And I'll pass on the "favorite bass part" repostings, too... as much as it pains me to do so... And I just don't understand...you play so well, too... HTC1

Well, cyn, you gotta admit.... he's making a living out taking crap and making it sound like it should've sounded in the first place, before it ever escaped outta the record factory - can't fault the man for that. But I ain't gonna +1 him either, not after that Poster Child for Frank Zappa's most famous saying: "A composer is a guy who goes around forcing his will on unsuspecting air molecules, often with the assistance of unsuspecting musicians." But that's just my opinion, and we all have at least one of those, right?

"making a living"?!?! Where's my check?!?! Lost in the mail...just like my check... And how can you not toss out a +1 to the boy for taking a sows ear and making a silk purse out of it. Not to come down on the Femmes, but they make Lou Reed, Tom Petty, Neil Young and Bob Dylan sound like The Four Tenors... Man, getting just a bit too judicial in your old age there, Colonel... Now you made me pull out the Yoko... Honestly, sg, I'd be wearing your bag if I found myself in that band... Reminds me of the old riddle. Whats short, red and has a hard time going through a revolving door? Yoko Ono with a spear in her head. Happy Trails Cynical One

Thanks for reminding me that I need to add something to my bucket list - kill all those ##%*@! people who post Yoko Ono videos to YouTube - they need to die before I do!
That video drove me to nearly accept the VF.... not quite, but certainly I'm less hostile about them today than I was yesterday......
But still no +1 for JFrank. I said I'm feeling less hostile towards the 'Femmes, I didn't say that I was all-of-a-sudden feeling generous with the accolades....

Holy crapitudaly! See what you've done JFrank?
I suppose it won't be much surprise that I'm a long time fan of the Femmes (well, their first album anyhow) and have always liked this song. I found this version to be quite interesting. I wasn't super excited by the vox, but the overall treatment is pretty darn cool. A bit different from what we do to "Add It Up":
Anyway, I didn't listen to the Yoko, but I feel like this thread needs some Bjork:

Well, if I can't post any more Yoko...hmmmm.... Guess that just leaves some God awful cover song...
This is a prime example of how not to do a cover song...
One of the comments on thsi video was "i hung myself after seeing this vide-"
You can see the soundman walking the stage during this video. Obviously looking for where the noise is coming from...or the Quaaludes...

ash, I had to read the description and the comments to figure out that this E.C. clip was from 1994. Not too long after his 'reggae period', so I now understand what he did to that song. The Man does like his Robert Johnson, doesn't he though. For the rest of you who didn't get that far.... one of the comments said "Bad news, Eric - Gawd called, and he wants his fingers back!" No wonder I keep coming back for more of this...... sumgai

Well, at least it wasn't in the style of his Lay Down Sally period.
And even though this is a JJ Cale song, Clapton seems to always get the credit for it...so...without any further ado...that same band that left Pink Floyd bleeding in the ditch, here's the Worlds Worst cover band doing Cocaine. Sort of a cover of a cover...sort of...
The comments are better then the video..."It's kind of like stabbing yourself in the eye and then stabbing yourself in the other eye to see if it hurts just as much."

c1, I'm not even gonna go there, not even for the comments...... RTN, Actually, that was pretty good, and not just compared to the rest of this thread's vids. Offbeat, yeah, but I'm fairly certain that it was intended to be "outside of the RIAA's comfort zone..... way outside". ;D At least I wasn't offended. Too bad I can't say the same for just about all of the previous postings..... c1 in particular has revealed a here-to-fore unknown talent for picking out what I can only describe as the waste of a perfectly good orgasm. sumgai

Jeez - we do those Floyd and Clapton covers too, better I hope. Those vids make me grateful for the 'right click' 'stop download' feature in IE. But they are just minor hiccups, compared to this..... YouTube - Van Halen really screws up "Jump"It starts to fall apart at about 1.00, and then, just as it is almost back in one piece, goes entirely pear-shaped after 1.50. Enjoy.... John

Man, that's really sad. I'm not a big Van Helen fan, but I respect what the guy can do. It never ceases to amaze me how these guys can have everything and just drink it away or send it up their nose.
Well, I can't play like Van Halen, but at least I can play in tune... I bet there was a guitar tech polishing his resume after that one...

Holdsworth is in a league all by himself. I've been a follower of his music for decades. That video, while a bit eclectic, doesn't begin to scratch the surface of what Holdsworth can do. That's a thread all on its own...
But just to make Eddie feel a little better...yeah, I posted this before, but it just gets better the more you watch it...
