I'll let you be the judge...... If "they" take that down, there are more copies spread across the 'Tube. I've also stored a permanent copy on my own HD. Regardless of whether or not you believe this feller, as a musician (performing, recording, otherwise) you do have to consider the ramifications of his assertions. Or in other words, what if he's right?...... Just food for thought, after your Christmas dinner, and before your Christmas nap in front of the fire. Hope all went well for you and yours. ;D sumgai

Just look at the amendments made to the Lacey Act recently. It doesn't surprise me in the least. I've always wondered about the audit trail in the distribution of piracy software. He does a good job offering a theory on how to connect the dots.
While it would be nice to believe that spreading the "truth", or trying to introduce some logic into the debate will help when lawmakers push things through, my experience indicates that by the time a law strongly supported by a well funded industry makes it to the floor for a vote it's virtually a done deal.
The industry probably wrote the verbiage for the lawmakers to introduce. And when individuals attempt to fight these agenda driven pieces of legislation, and you can count on it being individuals because the masses are too afraid to look down the rabbit hole, the industry will just outspend them in court and censure them through their wallets.
The one thing lost in all of this is that law enforcement is only possible when the level of illegal activity stays within the bounds of enforceability. The sexual assault charges and extradition efforts to return Wikileaks Julian Assange to Sweden will be heard out in February of next year. Odd that the case against Manning is heating up at about the same time...hmmm...could there be more to this then just securing Brittany Spears' royalties?
Control of the Internet has been tried before...and they'll keep trying. But remember what happened when links to fund Assange's defense through contribution were removed? Hackers attacked and shut down several for profit sites as a retaliation.
If the Internet is turned into an "us against them" environment the powers that be need to think long and hard about the consequences. Unlike simple voters, their opposition is smarter and just as devious. Ask any IT Security Officer who's winning the hacker\spyware\malware wars. Corporations, and especially Government entities are woefully unprepared to resist cyber attacks. And I'll bet the farm...while I still own the farm...that if this comes to blows no one will be prepared for the outcome.
The Internet is a living breathing model of natural selection. Introduce obstacles and a way is found to survive and thrive.
It seems that if you buy into this man's argument the Industry noticed it could not change fast enough to retain market share, so it spun off divisions to generate income to offset areas where it's conventional business divisions were losing market and profitability... Sound familiar? Read the FCIC report.
And the music industry has been screwing their artists for years. Is anyone surprised they did it via the Internet though pirating software distribution? If the situation was as bad as they claim it has been, and they weren't financing their operations with this distribution, then how is it that they're still alive?
Fight the good fight if you want to...I'll be looking for which way the underground moves...

What the world needs now is a free and open internet, governed by a trusted entity like CBS.

Working in IT I have seen how fast countermeasures arise to any attempt to control the Internet.
Technology moving at the speed of Government will never out maneuver technology moving at it's evolutionary speed.
SOPA is just one more example of agenda based legislation with lipstick on it.
When an industry fails to spot the change in a marketplace, is too encumbered by contrived levels of bureaucracy, or doesn't have the smarts to adapt, it dies. The larger the ship, the longer it takes to turn. Wait too long to react and you wind up on the beach. Look at IBM and Motorola...and soon Microsoft...for examples.
The last gasp to stay alive is to haul out the war chests and start lobbying for legislation. If they truly believe this legislation will save them they are wrong. The first sign of a declining empire is when they start building walls. If anything, it will incite more piracy then before...along with retaliatory strikes against what Internet presences they do have.
We already have a bevy of copyright laws in this country. The problem is a matter of scale. The level of piracy has surpassed the level of enforceability. It has reached a level of structural failure and no amount of legislation can save it.
Holding your ISP accountable is non-sense. This will only limit access to a small number of ISPs, which is probably what they want to increase their revenue stream, but in turn will eventually raise the anti-trust flag. Wait until someone figures out how to market 1st Mile to individuals, thereby making everyone their own ISP, the law again becomes unenforceable. Square one returns...
SOPA is not the answer. SOPA will be a tiger with no teeth. If you really want complete control of the Internet...then shut it off. Otherwise, learn to survive in the ocean or drown.

Why all the hate for SOPAs. With some honey, they're like a little taste of heaven.
