For the past few years, I've run a year-end trivia quiz, resulting in the award of a prize to the winner.
However, it's become increasingly difficult to formulate questions which cannot be easily googled. And, truth be told, I haven't had the free time during October and November to get a quiz set up for December.
And, not everyone is a trivia buff anyway. So, I've decided to celebrate the end of another fruitful year here at G-Nutz in a different way this year! No arcane trivia questions to ponder, and everyone can play!
Announcing . . . .
The 2012 G-Nutz Year-End Raffle!!!!
The workings of this are simple. Everyone who submits at least two posts during the month of December, from the 1st to the 31st, is entered automatically.
One raffle entry per username, so multiple posts won't get you multiple entries. The two-post requirement is designed to exclude spammers or "one-post wonders".
And, you crafty types can forget signing up under multiple usernames to get multiple entries. I'll notice any uptick in new users. And, as always, I check the IP addresses of new users, so I'll spot you- and delete all your entries from the drawing!
Also, as always, I'll delete drivel, so you'd better have something to say in those two posts. Even if it's only a Happy Birthday wish!
On January 1st, I'll draw a winner from the hat, who will receive a fabulous prize of my choosing (The prize, as always, will be guitar related).
I'll then post the winner's username, and the winner will then have 7 days from the time of that posting to PM me with an address to receive his or her raffle prize. If the person doesn't respond within 7 days, I'll draw a new winner and the 7 day period will start all over again. This is designed to eliminate someone who posts twice and never returns, and guarantees we will eventually have a winner and award a prize.
Everyone is eligible except me! So, make sure you all sign in and post at least twice during December.

I lol occasionally.
I think GN2 often falls prey to an odd sort of capitalism. The thread last commented on within a certain forum appears on the front page in the "Last Post" column. This becomes the first thread clicked on by many, which then accumulates the most comments, ad finitum -- in this way certain threads become the most popular through virtue of a small window of continued activity, while others are left uncommented on through, simply, "bad timing." Activity generates activity -- hence 'capitalism.'
For my own inactivity in this thread, I myself find articulating a complimentary or thankful nature very difficult -- especially over the internet -- much to my own chagrin. Hence, while I've seen this thread in the week and change since it's been posted, I find it shamefully hard to express my continued thanks to Newey for running these sorts of "community events" off his own back because I'm often concerned that I'll come across as sycophantic. Perhaps this is an issue that others share.

Does the prize get bigger for word count? Maybe the amount of additional padding and extra fluff that encloses the prize should be determined by the number of words posted by the winner! And thanks newey - you are the one that deserves a prize most! J

And thanks newey - you are the one that deserves a prize most! J This! I kinda feel like posting in this thread is cheating.

Not at all. Besides, you hit the two-post requirement over the weekend, so you're already entered. And thanks for the thanks. It's my pleasure to do a little something since you guys on the board here give me so much entertainment over the course of the year- and have for years.

Well, the only problem with that is, newey would need a bigger budget in order to accomodate the Hewlett-Packard sized carton necessitated by 4real's penchant for didactism.... er, make that locquasiousness. Amen to that! sumgai

Aye, asmith, I think you nailed it on the head.
Myself, I check the board at least every day, if not multiple times.
While I have very little substance to contribute, I can say I never walk away without some sort of previously unknown-to-me knowledge. Such as the definition of "sycophant."
EDIT: To be a little more on topic, thank you to all who maintain this board, you all deserve prizes far more than any of us. That isn't to say, however, that I won't be entering for the chance to win SG as a prize....

BTW – I like 4reals posts – always some interesting perspective. I’m just jealous of his typing speed.
Actually, I can also type as fast as I can think, but the thinking part also slows me down.

John LOL...wel, you know, I taught myself and attribute a lot of it to guitar playing actually...it has many useful side qualities to learning. The thinking part...hmmm...possibly more akin to performance art. Though, while I admire succinctness, even if I'm not too good at it...I'm not so find of the present trend to reducing things to a few 'quips' or a pithy line (unless it is very clever and take into account that others may not get references)...or worse, just quoting someone else and using those thoughts is a little 'shallow' shall we say. Less common around here, but that's about all one sees on say, FB or indeed in real life a lot of the time. In fact, the 'shallowness' of some are quite astonishing....though I've had a few challenge me quite a bit lately, so getting a brain work out...but enough of my love life...how's this thing work? We post, name is drawn out....prize is won if it is noticed withn 7 days of winning? So, there's no way to game this, except for the guy with the hat....unless of course, it's a talking hat, like in Harry Potter ;-) is there really a GN2 hat, or was that just pulled out of your...umm...donkey is it...LOL

Well, 4real, that's fairly succinct! Exactly. It will not have been missed, I trust, that the parameters of posting to enter and responding within a week have been expressly designed to boost our traffic. Sorry, I don't get the reference . . .

Ace, That photo was priceless! ;D And nearly the spitting image of Fender, too.... quite the find amongst the Innerwebs. And g-f-b, newey has expressly stated that the gift will be guitar-related. That leaves me out, as the only relation I have now with guitars is wistful dreaming of what could've been. Not exactly what a raffle winner needs in his Christmas stocking, eh? sumgai

Have we considered the possibility that newey has the supernatural ability to make people into perfect guitarists? There could be some crossroads business going down in here

The Hour draws near . . . ♪ Dum DAH Duummm! ♫ All the entries (so far) are written onto slips of paper. There's still an hour or so for late entrants, any of whom will be duly added. No further additions since my last update. And all placed in a plastic glass for mixing up. Drawing to come . . . Drawing will be held after the New Year, US Eastern Standard Time. For transparency and fairness purposes, the actual drawing will be done by a third party, namely, Mrs. Newey. Gee, what's that on the monitor there ? . . .

I was going to go out and get hammered, but the suspense over the imminent prize draw is making me too sick to hold down my liquor. I will instead stay logged in, transfixed, awaiting the result. Finger's crossed! Seriously, newey, very generous of you to offer a year-end draw.
