Hi Folks, Some of you might remember me. Heck I've only been away for 1 ½ years. I knew I'd come back eventually. According to an E-Mail I recently received concerning a relatively new page on my website www.1728.org/guitar11.htm I was told that when both coils are cut, you can't get the single coils in series. Since this is my diagram, I think it is right, but could some of you folks look this over and see if it is a correctly wired diagram? Thanks.

Yep, it's a problem.
The way you're cutting the coils the bridge pickup will be shorted along with the bottom of the neck when you flip to series. Need to take ground off the neck side of the coil cut switch and put the neck black wire there instead. Yes, that'll leave a shunted coil hanging in the middle of the series stack, but you need more poles (on both switches, I think) to get around that.
BTW - Welcome back!

wolf, Well, as they say, look what the cat drug in.... ;D Wecome back, even if your name isn't Kotter. The fix to your question is easy, but as already pointed out, you need to work some more on the Vol/Tone module - we'll leave that in your capable hands. Depending on which Neck coil is to be cut out of service, the red/green pair should be shunted to either the black or the white wire, not to ground. The modder may need to test for maximum humbucking to be sure the correct coil has been cut out, if they use different pickups with color schemes that don't match. HTH sumgai

Okay, here is the new, improved 2 humbucker circuit: Ashcatlt offered some detailed information and I hope I followed it correctly. Also, I paid attention to the remarks made about the volume control wiring. Well, I hope this is the final one.

wolf- The new version looks good to me, but let's get a second on it. And welcome back!

Yup that does it!
I have to say I find it a little strange how you've got the top pickup going -+-+ top to bottom and the other +-+-. I can see how it allows you to draw the thing without crossing wires, but it seems to confuse the issue a bit and make it look like you're doing more than re-stacking coils. Probably just me, though...

wolf, I like the new version too. Just be sure to include a side note in your text description about how different companies use different wire colors, so if a modder wants to mix & match pickups, they may need to shunt the series-link pair (DiMarzio's red/white wires) to white instead of black, in order to get the lowest amount of hum. Now, step away from the drawing board for awhile, and come over here.... you need to catch up on what's happenin' in The NutzHouse! ;D sumgai

Okay, I changed the diagram just a little bit to make it less crowded: I will update my website in a few hours. Wow - I guess I stayed away from Guitar Nutz 2 much too long. (Notice the mistakes I made in that first diagram?) Thanks for all your help. ************************************************** Edited To Add: Ashcatlt the neck pickup in this diagram is wired differently (what I call "inside out" wiring) so that when both coils are split they will be humbucking. More information here: 1728.org/guitar7.htm

Oh I completely understand the inside out thing. Just the way you've got it drawn it almost looks like the whole thing is then inverted in phase. Follow the wires and you find that it's not. It's a minor thing that just seems to make it more complicated than it really is.

But the big question remains:
Who is Trev Anastasio?
....on GN2 we ask the tough questions, and enquiring minds want to know...

Isn't it the dude from Phish?

He is indeed the guitarist from Phish. Dunno if that band made a dent down in Oz, which may explain JohnH's puzzlement.
Don't know what his real first name is, but I always assume that someone named "Trey" is really a nickname for a "III", just as the eldest son is often called "Junior".

Born Ernest Joseph Anastasio III. It's a shame they broke up, but you know what, they did it for the music and ended it when it didn't feel right. In the end, it was a better way to do it.
