What happens when you take an 89 year old song by this guy... George Gershwin...and put in the hands of these guys? Tony Levin and 3/4 of Dream Theater...or Mike Portnoy, John Petrucci and Jordan RudessWell, you get this: This is one of my favorite Gershwin songs so I had to share this. Happy Trails Cynical One

A very stout cover version. I liked how they weren't slaves to the original, but felt free to play around within its structure.
So often, when rock groups cover something more in a jazz vein, they are tied to the original- it's just "the song" with the amps to 11, meaning no originality to the interpretation, just electric instrumentation. This was different.

tl;dr (err...w?) When Gershwin would perform the piece it would run around 18-20 minutes. Depending on the published version you find there may be 50-88 measures missing from the original work. Based on Gershwin's original jazz\classical intent for the piece I think they kept that spirit intact. For reference, even though it's longer, try reading the original piece: HTC1

regarding the 'original version' vid....
nle;htr2 (Not Long Enough, Had To Read Twice)
The 'modern' interpretation was OK, but I just like that 'full orchestra' sound so much more. Might explain why I had several synth modules, and when I played, I set them up to several different instruments, not just string pads or some kind of keyboard.

The orchestral version was much more recognizable, and more pleasant to my ears.
Not sure why there's a Cyrillic watermark, but it says "BNT Archive".

Not sure why there's a Cyrillic watermark, but it says "BNT Archive". It was performed by the The Symphony Orchestra of the Bulgarian National Radio in the video. HTC1

This is rather anal, but that picture only shows 2/5 of Dream Theater, or 3/5 when the photo was taken. Had to say it since I love DT/LTE
