Hey guys, it's been a few years. Things have changed (guitar wise) at the ux ranch, and I've missed bouncing ideas off my fellow nutzhouse friends.
I'll start with gear, Guitars I still have from my days here:
Modded Squier '51 (just recently added locking tuners)
Modded '75 Cortez (Cort) Telecaster (no new changes)
'76 Maderia Acoustic
Yamaha APX5A Acoustic-Electric
Fender JP-90 Bass (shielded and microphonic J pup replaced with Wilkinson since I left)
Equipment I've burned out on/traded up since I left:
Epi LP+top (blah playability, good Gibby sound)
Raven/Aria 5120 bass ('60's eBay, flipped it)
Epi SG special (returned)
Ibanez GSR 105 bass
SX 5 string Fretless jazz copy (meh)
Gibson Robot SG: Fire saled at Sam Ash for $699... Most likely because it COULDN'T STAY IN TUNE! (requires another post for the bloody details).
ESP LTD EC-401-FM (amazing playing guitar, discovered I hate EMG's and Sam Ash didn't have a 401VF I could swap it for)
Ibanez SGEBE110 Acoustic-Electric bass
Fender FM212R
Crate BT 15
Peavey Max 115 bass amp
Fender Mustang III Mk I (had fizz)
Digitech RP 300
Line 6 pod 2.0
Tascam CD GT-1
New/Newer gear I have now:
Blacktop Strat (Black/Black original)
Fender Marauder (LP Blue)
Washburn Rover travel acoustic
Epi LP Jr sunburst (NOT a plywood model: Found used with a SD Pearly Gates in it for $89, put some Tyco/Ping tuners I had laying around... Now it's Freaky weird and good)
Fender Mustang III Mk II (have 2/4 button switched and expression pedal).
Digitech RPX 255 (mainly for the whammy and drum machine, though Whammy's days are over with M III's pedal)
Danelectro Honeytone
I've been GASing for a couple guitars... Amazingly mostly Squier's (CV Tele thinline & '50's, and Tele (shaped) Bass), but since THAT's not going to happen, it seems to be tinker time again. The Epi LP Jr cleaning/Setup/new tuners got me going, though I don't think the PG is going to stay long in it. I Love my Blacktop Strat's playability, but other than positions 1&2 (bridge HB and two inside coils), the pups are muddy (noticing this mostly since acquiring that pearly gates). While a new scratch plate with the PG and a Dimarzio SD may be in it's future, I came across a tweaker for a steal on ebay recently... A Fender Torty Guard with Alnico V's (American Standard), with a Toneshaper installed ($81!!). I figured even if the toneshaper bombs, it's still worth it to try my Blacktop as an American Standard.
My '51 crosses into so much Tele and Strat tone-itory I often end up with it even when starting with another guitar, The Blacktop deserves more attention so it's tone tweak time.
I read through the "Can we have it all" thread, and I think it's not possible on one guitar, but maybe... With just the right stable of guitars.
