Google your favorite browser for news of Johnny Winter's passing, just yesterday.
(The thread's title refers to the fact that I seem to be the major player in relaying news of Elder Statesmen of the guitar world drifting off this mortal coil.)

Didn't miss it 'gai. Just a bit more circumspect these days. On another forum several years ago, I started a thread regarding the sad departure of Ravi Shankar (I think it was Ravi Shankar!!) and it turned out to be another Ravi Shankar, a film director? Not doing that again, no sir! (even if there only ever was one Johnny Winter) A sad loss indeed, I'm looking at my Firebird right now.

OK, b4nj0, you're forgiven.... once bitten, and all that. Interestingly enough, in the Ain't It A Coincidence Department, just last week I downloaded his entire discography, warts and all. Gonna hafta give that a more respectful listen, in the very near future.

. . .
Me, too. I hadn't heard (or thought of) Johnny Winter for years until a couple of weeks ago, when my guitar teacher's lesson for the week was "Mean Town Blues", which I wasn't familiar with before that. Good stuff.
