Just got a new tele(a gift 2nd hand)
it has a Mexican neck, and the body of a blacktop . The bridge and pickup are from a standard American tele. plugge it in a realised that the volume wasn't smooth. its either 100% volume, then if you literally touch it its 80% volume, any more then it's 20% volume rather than a smooth gradual decrease/increase in volume.
its fine as I play at 100% anyway and use the amp volume, but is there a reason for this and how could I repair it?
from what I can work out to give you as much info as possible that the electrics are from a fender tele, the bridge pickup from standard American tele, volume, tone off the Mexican tele and had a kill switch fitted.
thanks for any help on this.

Rikipip-
Hello and Welcome to G-Nutz2!
No worries as far as posting in the wrong spot, we're lenient with newcomers on this sort of thing.
Since the thread has now generated a reply, I'll have to move the whole thread which I will do later today when I get home. I'm on my phone at the moment, and the mobile app doesn't allow for administrative tasks.
More later, but it sounds like you may have a pot with a wrong taper. Pots are cheap, so the easiest course is just to replace it.

newey - Why the heck would you use the mobile app? Just open your browser and surf to the forum. Every so often it will revert to the mobile theme, but you scroll all the way down and click where it says "desktop", et voila! Not that it's always the most fun to do certain fiddly things from the phone screen, but...
I had the same response when everybody was freaking out about that Facebook messager thing. Wasn't a problem for me, because I never used the FB app, and even the mobile theme in safari works for most things.

^^^ absolutely, first the internet of things and "the browser is the computer" pro-cloud frenzy, followed by bloated devices with a special app for every single forum/site.

Well, that was the issue, and typing into dialog boxes is a particular PITA. Just easier to do it once I got home.
