It would appear that PhotoBucket is either having a seizure of the brains kind, or else nearly all of my hosted images are toast.
After that debacle of a few months ago that has since taken on the moniker of PhotoGate, and which included our own cynical1, I headed over to PhotoDump and logged in, just to be sure everything was copacetic. Seemed to be. Today I wander by The NutzHouse, and the first thing I note is my avatar is MIA (missing in action). No warning from you-know-who, nuttin'. So I try to send them a message, using their forms, of course.... Geez Louise, that site is slower that snot in January, in Antarctica yet!
The upshot is, while I was betting that they had finally screwed just about everyone on the innerwebs, all at one time (good planning, people), I was finally able to get an error page that said, and I quote: "We are currently undergoing maintenance, please be patient. Your account and all of your photos are intact, and will back online shortly." Oh? Right in the middle of the day?! And excuse me for asking, but what color was that bridge you want to sell to me?
Yeah, right. Did I not just mention something about good planning, mmmm?
Looks like it might be time to start looking for a better storage facility, one that's actually usable. Sigh.

It's always the middle of the day somewhere. Their servers could well be in Bangladesh . . .

True enough, newey, but they are using the Akamai network of servers, located all over the world. I tend to think it they were tinkering with their own North American server setup, which might have started during Oh-Dark-Hundred and stretched into the standard working hours of the day.
Since my avatar is back, safe and sound, I assume that I need only log in about once a month (as I've been doing for some time), and that activity should keep things on the up-and-up. But make no mistake, I do have everything backed up in three places, besides my local machine.

What would gum know from brains.... ..I know it took you 48 hours to find it... Nah, you forgot - you're across the Date Line, so it was really only 24 hours!

Dang! ...what month is it there anyway?? I dunno... But now that I think about it, the calendar is also upside-down in your land. I'm sorry to have to break the news to you, but some rather unpleasant weather is coming your way!
