Over the past few years, Fender has been blending/morphing its classic ideas into new guitars. We had the "Blacktop series" a few years ago, with things such as Jaguars with HBs. Now, they're at it again, with the "Parallel Universe" series. These have been introduced one-by-one over the past year, but I was unaware until I saw the "JagStrat" at the local music store. They also have a Tele Strat, which has Tele pickups in a Strat body, and several other variations.

I've seen these. my thought is that at least they're trying? guitar players tend to be an aesthetically conservative lot, so instead of even attempting to be groundbreaking, we get sprite the remix

Perfect analogy. They did, however, issue one new body style the "Meteora": Which is electronically a Tele, but with a new offset body style. Pretty cool IMO. "Meteora" is presumably a female meteor, which raises the question of how one tells a male meteor from a female meteor? I suppose the answer is to turn it over and look. One other interesting thing, unlike other Fender models, the headstock does not say "Meteora" after the "Fender logo. Instead, they surround the Fender logo with some graphic curlycues. I wonder if this is a thing we'll see on other fender models. After all, one really doesn't need the guitar to say "Stratocaster" or "Telecaster" on it, the designs are so iconic anyway.

I'd love that with a different pickup configuration. fender offset screams jaguar/mustang or jazzmaster configuration to me.... although I LOVE my blacktop jazzmaster

I dunno, makers these days put out fanned frets, multi-scale, 7,8++ string guitars, headless designs, exotic woods, ultra lightweight and comfortable. Check out Strandberg and Kiesel. Super cool guitars. I maybe 50 yrs old now, but I would not spend the amount of 1500+ EUR on an old design.
