All,
I am attempting to shield my Mexican Strat.
I am having trouble trying to understand a mix-up that I found on GuitarNuts.com, regarding which size cap to use for a given pot.
In one article it says, 'When using a 500k pot, use a 0.33 micro-farad cap'.
Further on it says 'When using a 500k pot, use a 0.033 cap'. (Extra 0).
Obviously, the two are quite different.
Which is the correct size? 0.33 or 0.033 for a Mexican Strat with 500k pots?
And since I am asking, what is the correct size cap if I was using 250k pots?
Thanks, Kendall

0.022 to 0.047 for either depending on the tone you want to achieve.

Can anybody validate 'flateric's response?
It's always good to have a second opinion.
Thanks flateric for the reply.

I used a .047uF on a 500k pot in my Ibanez recently (standard HH wiring) and it sounds great.

I have a Mexican Strat. I took out the stock pups, too weak and wimpy. I installed Texas Specials and changed the cap to .22. I left the pots at 250k. As I have stated before, I have been offered money by die hard Start fans, and those I have let play it.....drool!

Deepblue,
You typed .22
Did you mean to type 0.022 ?
Thanks to everyone, for all your input.
Feel free to keep commenting. I'll take any suggestions you have to offer.

The most common "tone cap" values are 0.015, 0.022, 0.033, and 0.047; each value has one zero to the right of the decimal point, if the value is being expressed in microfarads (µF). "Zero-point-zero-three-three," if that helps any. I think the only place on GuitarNuts.com where you'd see a reference to a (microfarad value) cap without a zero in the "tenths' place would be the 0.33 µF, 400 volt unit used on the string ground as a shock protector. If there's a typo suggesting a "point-three-three" as a tone cap, maybe John A. would like to edit that, if you mention the URL for the page where it is.
