So, last week this thing was the "Stupid Deal of the Day" on MF, $59.99 + tax, with free shipping no less. Do I need a cheap HH Shredder-type guitar? No, not in the least, but het, for $60 USD I thought I'd see what I would get, and how much work it would need out of the box to be playable. It just came today, and I haven't had the chance to plug it in yet (wife is sleeping . . .), but I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised so far. First thing, of course, is to run the fingers along the edges of the frets- and surprise! No blood was shed. Tuned it up, the strings are crap, but when I bought a new Fender the strings were crap, they'll be changed immediately anyway. Tuned it up and it plays pretty doggone good, no fret buzzing and the action is actually set much lower than I typically like("Shred or Die!", I guess, with this thing). Tuners seem decent, we'll have to see about the pickups but if I get ambitious there's some spare HBs in the parts bin. #-way switch has a nice solid feel to it, the pots not so much. Might have to do something there. Made in China, of course. It even came with a 10 foot cable. It is a short-scale, 22.5 inches, which is about the shortest you can do with standard tuning. When I hit "checkout" on this, I was thinking of giving it to my eldest granson, who'll be 14 in a couple of weeks, but the wife convinced me I should give him a guitar that I had built as that would be more meaningful. So, I guess I'll add this to my stable and give the grandson one of the Teles. The neck is a flat C- shape with a wide fingerboard for all those Dimebag wannabes. The relief looks OK, haven't really checked the intonation yet, but I'm assuming some set-up will be needed. But I don't think any fret work is going to be necessary. Has what they described as a "Matte Walnut stain finish", looks more purplish to my eyes, but not a bad looker: More to follow after I can plug it in and spend a bit more time with it

That looks wicked! Definitely one for the next board-shorts in the snow picture.
Or, you can use it when you sit in with your grandsons band. Wearing that, you'll feel about 16 again!. I think I need one too.

Congrats! A nu axe is always a good thing! MIC lowest end quality has gone higher , last floyd MIC I tested was super solid, but I sold it.

In the end, I gave it to my grandson for his birthday, as I originally planned to do- after restringing it w/ D'Addarios and adjust the bridge, pickup heights, etc. It's not bad for a short-scale guitar. I told my grandson if he sticks with playing, I'll get him a better instrument.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but as I recall Mitchell was an old Guitar Center "House" brand.
I picked up an acoustic Mitchell on eBay a few years back for $35.00, It had a missing tuner. The other five should have caught the same bus...but once I put a spare 3 X 3 set on it it played quite nicely. ASmith wore it out when he was here 8 years ago and it still plays better than I do.
