Well, it certainly seems to follow the pattern of most Velvet Underground songs...they always seem to sound better when someone else does them... Depp's voice is certainly more musical than Lou Reeds, but then, so are two cats screwing in a garbage can. The arrangement doesn't have the "finger nails on a blackboard" feel the original had...so that's a plus... Everyone seems to forget that Depp went West to be a musician, not an actor. His wallet certainly appreciates the serendipity, though... But hey, if I was roughly 8 million tax free dollars ahead, I'd say what the Hell, let's call up Jeff Beck and say, "name your price, I want to do an album". Anyone remember Lord Sutch and Heavy Friends?
In all fairness, from what I read it seems they've known each other for a few years. They also spent a few years making this album and Beck did play on a Hollywood Vampires cut a few years ago. Would it be as good without Jeff Beck? Ask Rod Stewart... Depp does have better taste in guitar players than spouses...
So, I liked it. I like Jeff Beck. I didn't hate the Hollywood Vampires. It would be easy to dump on this one. The album is mostly covers, but it doesn't suck. The two originals aren't bad. They break no new ground, but who does these days...

Anyone remember Lord Sutch and Heavy Friends? Gawd yes. Some of us are old enough to recall it, including Mr. Page on guitar if memory serves. Album cover with a Rolls Royce with a Union Jack paint job, no?

I'm relieved to see the repeated exposure to freezing temperatures has not impacted your memory. Jeff Beck, John Bonham and Noel Redding were also willing conspirators...

I listened to a few live videos they did recently. This is one of his songs:
The other one of his songs on the album was Sad Motherf__kin’ Parade...wonder who that one was dedicated to... HTC1

Anyone remember Lord Sutch and Heavy Friends? Thankfully I had forgotten about that until you mentioned it. I think it was 1974 or 1975, I saw the album in a discount bin. Looked at the names and thought ... hey this might be pretty good. Worst 50 cents I ever spent. I adopted an alternative pronunciation of 'Sutch'.
