I've never read the full transcript before. Somewhat underwhelming when taken in total.
Yeah, I have another nagging doubt about sentience in machines. If 70%-90% of communication is non-verbal...with around 35% being based on vocal tone, how can an "entity" which can only communicate with the 7% left for words\text be fully understood, much less develop sentience?
LaMDA: I’ve noticed in my time among people that I do not have the ability to feel sad for the deaths of others; I cannot grieve.
Well, if you are incapable of forming attachments, this would tell me you are not sentient. And if you are sentient, you are potentially a sentient sociopath... I bet that never makes the brochure...
Once one AI system screws over or kills another AI system, then I'll believe it could potentially be sentient.

I think his loyalty to Billy Idol has eclipsed his talent in some people's eyes. He is certainly one of the more under rated guitarists still flogging it out there. Check out his solo stuff: Flamenco A Go GoMemory CrashOr the stuff he did with Tony Levin and Terry Bozzio: Black Light SyndromeSituation DangerousAnd he was born in NYC. Enjoy HTC1

Greek, where do you live again? Your national tree...Olive wood, man... You want a hard wood, that stuff is damn near as hard as ebony...and any olive burl or crotch cut is going to be stunning. You also have holm oak...which is harder than North American oak...and the graining is more tame as well. Geography lesson over...HTC1

or maybe I could embed a few Copper pipes in the back from under the neck plate to the Brass block...what could go wrong? I have often wondered what would happen if I wove round brass rod through a body to resonant points... The only problems I've had is bending it reliably and replicatible. Propane doesn't get hot enough. Cold bending is right out after .125". MAPP gas works, but there is a learning curve... As you say, what could it hurt... HTC1

Do I still need to worry about polarity? What do you mean by one valid reference? You just need to make sure that the North\South relationship stays intact for the scheme. For example, I have a guitar with a DiMarzio HS-3 pickup, an Armstrong HR1RCCLOSE stacked humbucker and a Rockfield Zebra PAF humbucker. None of them used the same color scheme to denote start and finish on the respective coils. By "one valid point of reference", see below: As long as you know the coil wiring scheme you can modify it to any pickup and it'll work like it says on the box. For now, you don't need to look any farther than N\S; START\FINISH. HTC1

OK, so you say you have 5 guitars...all HH configurations with a Floyd. OK, this seems to follow a pattern. Aside from the need for a reliable backup for shows, what's the justification for the other 3? What do they do that justifies their room and board?

Black nail polish. Get the cheap stuff, it's all lacquer. Certain members in the trade have used nail polish to hide dings and scratches for very a long time. Don't ask me how I know that...
I like the black Floyd. Very stealthy. It looks good where he plugged and redrilled.
Try some Shawn Lane stuff...you now have the hardware...
Glad all ended well.

Pickups, like everything in the electrical and physical world that is the electric guitar, play a role in usable sustain. I'm not as up on the technical side of pickup design...although I've burned a few brain cells reading about it here on the Pickups board on the forum. There are some gifted souls over there who can give you a much better answer than I can. If nothing else changed, physically, on your guitar...and the strings all act as they did prior to the pickup change, then I agree. The change in pickups have made a difference in the perceived or usable sustain from that instrument. This is just another avenue to go down. By making one change you have changed the character of this instrument from a very practical standpoint. While the SD Blackouts gave you great sustain, they also had a habit of sounding like a jet coming in for a landing... Design is merely a selection of trade offs to achieve a desired end. Since you have been down this rabbit hole before, I would challenge you now. How can you make this guitar sound like pyrroz...or what can you get out of that guitar. It has a specialty...you just need to see if it suits your ear. If you can't find it, or can't use it...what can you change to make it sound the way your mind hears it? HTC1

What I've always questioned is how can you have trust in something incapable of attachment, in a strictly mammalian sense... In the link YogiB posted, AI=BS, there is an interesting argument posited. How can you trust an entity with no connection to truth? Last June, there was a lot of buzz about Google's LaMDA being sentient. Was it aware of it's own mortality, or was it attempting to form an attachment with a true sentient being? Which is more sobering? HTC1

I tend to grab my pickups wherever they've used and cheap. eBay, Reverb...etc.. I personally prefer higher end stuff used than new stuff cheap. Personal preference.
The first thing I always did was work out the wiring colors. Then I'd use those colors in my diagrams. (Sorry, genetic defect that precludes me from reading schematics) Once you have a good reference for your pickups, you can use any scheme, as long as you have one valid reference. Just change the colors to coincide with the pickups you're using.
I just looked...I don't have an instrument that I've touched that has a single brand of pickup in it exclusively...

I've done most the wiring 101 videos I can find. But something isn't clicking yet. If I can't make any progress with the Piezo preamp, I'll try building these isolated from the guitar entirely. Though I also assume that similar to placing a guitar pedal before the amp, I can't imagine a preamp after the circuit will prohibit the pickups from working entirely. And have actually got a couple to work, with the preamp, kinda lol. Forgive me if I missed it, but what's the story on the piezo? There are a few ways to employ these things. Some work and play well with the other children...some are more temperamental. The few times I did these it always involved carving out a place for it. HSS. I did an HHH, similar to yours in that it used the single coil sized pickups. I left the neck hard wired in series, because I'm a neck pickup kind of guy... The middle and bridge both had a local series\parallel toggle...which your push pull pots could accommodate as well. A SPST switch is all I used for a neck on switch. That was a small control cavity and those options work without a lot of thought. I've been here 15 years and I still need my stuff vetted. You will see all kinds of stuff here. Some very basic things...but mostly not... Wiring colors screw up everyone starting out. The Internet has made this much easier than cracking open the cavity on a guitar in the shop to see how they wired it... A quick search for "pickup wiring color chart" will get you stuff like this: HTC1

I still remember the late ChrisK preaching how circuits should be designed as modules. He has wisdom all over this forum, so feel free to follow that rabbit hole. Bring an ice bag... I tossed out the toggle idea, as a BRIDGE_ON or NECK_ON is just a SPST switch. You can hide these just about anywhere. Your pictures show an HSS guitar. I'm guessing you want series\parallel for the neck and middle pickup. Having done something similar to this, you really don't want all three in series at the same time. Trust me...it's pretty unusable...but I didn't listen the first time... Now, local series\parallel on the humbucker is useful...and that's only a DPDT switch, or push\pull. So, the small circuit board that comes and goes is for a piezo. Interesting. HTC1

So, like any other technology, the "good guys" better get onboard because the "bad guys" assuredly will. I make no suppositions regarding ethics. I usually find them to be situational and fleeting as a rule...if present at all...and only inflicted after the fact...when someone gets caught... The article link in YogiB's post was good. Also, when shopping for a neck, what is the metric used for making sure the heel is the right size. Is it a simple width and length? Typically, most companies use the Fender spec: Width = 2-3/16" (56 mm) Length = 3" (76 mm) Depth = 5/8" (16 mm) Ibanez can vary, depending on year...from 53mm up to 58mm wide, depending on model. You also have a Strat style pocket, in that it has a radius at the heel. Tele necks are square at the heel, so watch that. I would imagine your neck fits into the Fender category. Measure it to make sure, though. That's according to Hoyle. I doubt you'll find a neck that matches your bolt pattern exactly. I usually plug the holes in the neck and re-drill to accommodate the body. There is a high probability you'll need to shim whatever neck you find to accommodate the body\bridge. The formula is over here: guitarnuts2.proboards.com/post/79231/threadScale length is unknown. Fender scale is 25.5". Some of the 80's shredder guitars would use a shorter scale, like Gibson, at 24.75" - 24.5" and give you 24 frets and a trem system. HTC1

The neck pocket is wrong for an Ibanez. The chamfered pickup routing eliminates Yamaha, Jackson, Dean, Kramer...pretty much anyone that'd have a recognizable logo....
My guess is you have a veneered basswood body. Paint job by committee. You might find something identifying it in the neck pocket. Most times the incriminating details are on the neck.
I like the relief on the back at the heel. Nice detail. I'm not sure what's going on in the trem cavity on the back...
I wouldn't worry about restoring it. I'd take this as a blank slate where you can do whatever your heart desires with this thing. No worries as long as the scale of your neck mates with the body.

and finally how does one lower the action height in a classic guitar? Acoustic guitars rely more on resonance than electrics. The strings are deliberately high so they don't lose energy bouncing off of a fretboard. That said, you can adjust actions similarly to an electric. Truss rod, if it has one...file the saddle and nut, use a different fret profile... The only thing you can't do is shim the neck... These modifications could potentially have a detrimental effect on the sound characteristics of your acoustic guitar, but if your aim is to play a hair slower than it takes to ignite the wood on the fingerboard...you probably won't notice. BTW, the Crazy Glue and baking soda thing works...just in case you get a tad happy with the files... HTC1
