Excellent documentary and an excellent amp........
I've got a 30 odd year old 100 w Vox bass amp which I feed my Fender Sidekick into, although they are both transistor amps the sound is very nice. Good bite from the front and plenty of bottom from the Vox. I'm saving up for valve versions, hopefully I'll have enough before I'm 70 LOL.

Thanx guys...
Only problem is my birthday is 30 November..... LOL
I have actually changed this twice in my profile, every year a different birthday is kind of fun but also kind of wierd..... Day before month is my preferred order but month before day seemed to be the preset. Whatever...
Oh, y gracias, C1, por los saludos.

Could you imagine buying a car that needed tuning to make it work, and that tuning was an optional extra. Wouldn't sell many Porsches that way, LOL. Surely on your side of the pond 'merchantable quality' exists as a prerequisite. That must mean a guitar should be set up and playable.
I had a girlfriend here in Spain who bought a Squire guitar and amp, 'cos she wanted to learn to play. The amp buzzed and the guitar was unplayable! I told her to just get her money back and go elsewhere. These people do not deserve to be in business, in my opinion....

What's the idea behind the pick holder? In nearly 50 years, I've lost my pick once, maybe I'm missing something....
Love your build, nice work!

Are you sure you are allowed to use the word 'locquacious' on this forum But seriously, most of my life I have been sad to see large corporations and indeed smaller ones too (not to mention governments) looking after themselves, rather than their clients and employees. Hell's bells, in the UK, a nasty piece of work (I met him twice and worked for his brother in law), who made a large fortune out of cr@p, has been pushed as an industry example to follow and made a Lord! Good luck Wolf PS I believe the tobacco industry leaders were found, in the 90s, to be guilty of lying, in the 60s. It doesn't seem to have stopped much of their pushing tactics....

I'm sure, that for some, sealing the packing case so it can't be opened to plug it in and use it would be the safest option.....

I really love my modest LP collection, mostly original discs from 60s and 70s. I use a Linn LP12 to play them on (with a moving coil cartridge, the best, far better than most moving magnets) through separate class A amps of course....
Those USB turntables are OK to get the basic sound onto the 'puter but at the end of the day the quality of the player (input) will dictate the quality of output. The results I get transferring to digital are generally superior to the CD releases. Maybe because I care about music, a lot! I guess most people just want some assimilation of music while they are busy doing other things, washing up, cleaning the house, working, etc. I remember listening to the first tranny radios, back in the 60s, heaven, at the time, just because the music could be carried with you, but hardly quality.
There was much made, in the UK, of the superior music quality of analog over digital CDs. But you try battling it out with Sony, or whoever. Many of the promises of CD have failed to be realised. I hate it when those silly plastic boxes break at the hinge... and who can read the liner notes printed so small?
On a side note (just to keep on thread by going off thread....LOL), The mega record companies (some owned by the mega hardware companies) pushed hard for digital sound because those CDs cost a 10th the price to make and they could sell them for twice the price. Now digital is commonplace and many of us know how to manipulate it. Yup, they shot themselves in the foot by not totally thinking it through. Ha, ha! Digital downloads all over the place.
I agree that in a good studio environment you can get great results from digital and it is user friendly, but once it gets down to CD level...... that's a whole new story.
Oh, and those 60s LPs sound just like new and far better than the CD reissues, in my opinion.

You might take look at reaper, I believe it has fairly good midi facilities and at a good price (free), LOL.
I started off using Audacity about 5 years ago, then moved on to Krystal Audio Engine (also free but no midi), now I'm using Sonar 7.

Maybe take a look at Peter Green's 60s music for excellent examples of original slow blues runs. Black Magic Woman is just the surface.

Wow, what memories........ Some 22 odd years ago I ran the sound for BMG record's UK in house conferences, and this particular year we were in Jersey, channel Islands. The star act for the company was, 'Dion and the Belmonts', Got to chat with Dion between sets, etc. A majic moment in my life experience. The show was exceptional, more so because it was for just 50 or 60 invited people. Nice....

I think that the guage of string, maybe the make also, of string you use would help understand you problem a little better.
I was using Earthwood 10s for a long time but recently changed to Earnie Ball Slinky to save my fingers.... on my old Fender acoustic.

I'm sorry, yes, I should have been clearer. From the tape out, I would go to an aux input, if there is one. Then you can piggy back by coming out of the second amp's tape out to a third amp's aux, etc, etc. This is how we would demonstrate several amp systems with the same input signal. Probably not the perfect way, but useful in several instances.
Ooo, I'm a senior switch wirer, that's a coincidence bearing in mind the thread....LOL

Me, I'd go for amps in each location and send the signal around on audio co-ax, not that expensive at all. Spent 20 years in London at 'good' hi-fi stores, where you gotta know something about audio or you're dead. You'll lose far less on a low level line signal than you will with higher level speaker feeds, that's why active systems are popular. Try to keep the amp as close to the speakers as possible and the speaker cables equal length and short.
Well, that's what I do at home in my little studio system.

Hi all, I'm pretty sure that fitting a strap button to the heel of the neck will alter the balance since you will be changing the effective fulcrum point. If the neck weighs more than the body, having the button a short way along the body will certainly add to the problem. moving the button away from the body (to the neck heel, will certainly improve things. Perhaps you could make some tests by taping the strap to this position (perhaps using duct tape)? Just my thoughts on the subject.

Hiya, Could it be that the truss rod is a little over tight? Perhaps because of a 'down-guageing' of the strings (is that a new word - LOL).

Agree with DK.... If you can move between textbook and 'your thing' then do so, but just don't let your teacher see it happen. Sounds like you are developing your own style. [ADDED] Just watched a Jeff Beck (my idol) video and it seems he has no problem hanging his thumb over the fingerboard. But then he doesn't seem to have many problems doing anything with a guitar....LOL

He, he, he, ChrisK, LOL, sounds like you know about these Spanish village fiestas. Friday and saturday nights, after the formal 'moors and christians' stuff, the street turns into a live music/disco party zone, we're talking of starting around 1:00 am! Most bars stay open while there are people on their feet, but apart from the normal bars there are casals or penyas, where the various groups of villagers run their own bars, handing out free drinks, 'til the next formal stuff starts, at around 8:00 am the following morning. I know you would hate it..... I actually stayed home through most of it, but the street noise was enough to keep me awake. Particularly on sunday when they brought out the horses and brass bands (maybe 6 or 7 bands), starting their procession directly under my 2nd floor apartment balcony. Main reason I stayed home? I'm not as young as I was ('51 vintage) and I know that next week the village's patron saint fiestas begin with a week of 'bull running' in the streets, plus the street bars, paella competition, live music 3 or 4 nights (we're talking a serious PA system 'til 5:00 am), around 10 days of fiesta in all. Not sure how I'll get to fit any work in to this schedule.... Best thing is to just give in to it all and join in. You have to bear in mind that all the villages around here (Valencia Comunidad) are doing the exact same thing, but of course staggering the dates. If you are fit and able, you can go to fiestas every day from july through august. ;D I'm just glad I got the Aria fixed and thankful for the help and encouragement from here The Encore solid was easy, loose volume and tone controls pulled a couple of wires and the tone cap off. Well, he is a biker with a rather heavy handed son bashing away on his axes Well, back to sorting out my (5 day long) toothache!

OK, guys, I think I fixed it. The fiesta ended, eventually (we are talking 3 days with just 6 hours sleep). Oh, and I have a serious toothache at the moment, also 3 days long...... I pulled the selector switch out through the f hole, after dismounting both volume and tone controls to give me a bit of slack, and resoldered all the joints. apparently, VOILA ;D 2 days later all is still working. Still wondering why when I switch to bridge pu the signal slides in rather than switching in, but that's for another day. In the meantime the guy (he is a motorcycle mechanic with a bunch of really cool Harleys, etc, in his shop) gave me his Encore solid to fix, it hums...... I may get back to you. In the meantime, thanks for all of your interest, normally I would have checked for dry joints in the first place. LOL. Keep on keeping on....

ChrisK My bad, no reading meant open circuit (i.e. no resistance). I'm pretty sure the meter is good. All readings have been taken from a (good) lead plugged into the output jack of the guitar!I'm pretty decided that I'll have to get the electrics out of the body and check the switch. Trouble is, there are fiestas in my village at the moment (fireworks, parades, lots of noise and distraction), so it may have to wait till monday, when I can concentrate.....
