So if you were to wire this switch as a typical 3-way with two pickups it would look like this, correct? Almost correct. Omit the connections to lugs 1 and 6. Make the other connections you indicated.

I have thought of another way around that problem: we can rearrange the positions. One switch can select between: parallel / series / neck+cap. The other selects: in phase / out of phase / off. I can see a way of doing that but it involves leaving the neck pickup hanging from hot when the bridge alone is selected. That would be this (I've left out the treble bleed to avoid crowding the diagram even more): Also I've just realised the arrangement of the diagram in your OP appears implies the guitar & thus you, yourself, are lefthanded (though the controls are still wired with clockwise as max, i.e. righthanded, though I understand this is often a consequence of a lack of availability of reverse-log pots). I can flip the above diagram if that's the case.
Yogi B, what program are you using to draw your diagrams? Since I have a "normal" 3 way toggle, and not the one I thought I had ordered, I can just put the white wire on the middle lug, and the green and yellow on their respective outer lugs correct? The tone and volume pot bodies and switch ground appear to have good continuity through the control plate when I checked as well.

Yogi B, what program are you using to draw your diagrams? Visio, largely using shapes I've drawn myself, but heavily inspired by The Guitar Stencils Project. Your suggestion wouldn't work. A normal open frame switch just lacks the terminals you labelled as 1 & 6 in your previous image: it still has lugs 2, 3, 4, & 5. You'll need to gently straighten lugs 3 & 4 such that they're not in contact, then wire it per my diagram. (If you're struggling for space you could disassemble the switch to swap & rotate the outer two leaves such that their lugs are on the opposite side.) I figured as much, that's why I didn't bother explicitly showing grounding to the bodies — it's better to avoid soldering to the cases of pots if you can help it.

Finally got some caps that were small enough to fit in the slide switch cavity. Got everything wired up and works exactly as expected.
Thanks a lot for all the help!

Hello Yogi B, do you possibly have the latest version of "the guitar stencils project"? It is not available for download from the site on the link... I have tried to request access for couple of months already, so really hope for your help. BTW: sorry for off-topic...

Hello Yogi B, do you possibly have the latest version of "the guitar stencils project"? The Wayback Machine has an archived copy of the downloads page (and the files within). You might also want the additional symbols Phostenix used, these are also archived (the download link is at the very bottom of that page, on the far right).

I’ve got a ‘64 mustang that I’ve had for 35 years. As a teenager we decided to move the output jack to the body edge and drilled (I use the term loosely) a hole for it and stripped the “cracked” paint off. Needless to say it’s sat in parts in the case all this time. I recently repainted it, cleaned up the drilled hole, and am almost ready to do the wiring. Only one original pickup was good so I’ll be using SD SSL-5’s with one being RWRP. Output jack will remain on the body edge and a 3 way toggle pickup selector will go on the control plate where the jack originally was. I ordered a new pickguard for it and left the slide switch holes like original. I was wondering if some of you experts could look over the following doodle to tell me if this would work for the wiring?

If you’ve read through the entire thread you’ll see why it doesn’t work correctly if that’s from the first post. Also, I have a three position toggle switch in addition to the two slider switches. Not a typical Mustang setup.

That would be this (I've left out the treble bleed to avoid crowding the diagram even more): This is the wiring scheme I ended up using. Works great!

Are you using a three way toggle switch to switch between pickups?

I want the toggle switch somewhere else, so it’s kind of hard to figure out how to set it up in a different way

You have to use BBCode and link to a photo hosting site as far as I know.

You have to use BBCode and link to a photo hosting site as far as I know. Well, no, I guess it’s simpler than that. In order for me to include my images in my posts I have to NOT use my phone. That involves resizing my pics with an app on my phone so they are at 600 pixel width. Then, transferring my pics to my computer with a USB cable. Then, logging in to this forum on my computer. Once there, it’s pretty easy… you just start a thread or a post, then click on the Image button and select your 600 pixel width (max) images and then upload them to whatever the Image service is called. Following that, some text appears in your post box that is something like: Which is not good for me, so I remove both of the outer url tags; afterward you just have an img tag, and that allows your image to appear WITHOUT it being enabled to send someone to another site when they accidentally click/tap on your picture. EDIT: I apologize, I cannot remember how to post the entire tags, if that’s even possible. The text in my quote box is trying to do this by escaping the [ and ] using \. Obviously this doesn’t work. FINAL-EDIT: Maybe spaces will allow this somewhat… The spoiler below just shows what my EDIT was talking about.
