Hi! First time post, excited to be here! I’m super new at wiring, but I am looking at trying to mod my son’s Squire Bullet Strat. It’s HSS, with the humbucker being a 2 wire. Originally, I was looking at the SSM mod that JohnH had posted, but that wiring schematic shows a humbucker with 4 wires, so I can’t follow it.
So, I am wondering if anyone has suggestions or links to a fun mod I can do with a HSS strat with a 2 wire humbucker and a DPDT on/on or on/off/on switch. Any help would be appreciated!!
Another note, I replaced the pots in the strat with CTS pots that i had on hand. The Vol is a 250k , the tone is a 500k no load (which I think i can add resistors to the single coils to tone down the brightness if its too harsh), and a 250k for blend.

Hi Adam Our HSS designs generally use a 4-wire pickup so we can combine coils in various ways. You can convert a two wire pickup to four wire with a bit of care, and with a bullet, there's probably not much at risk in terms of value. And/or, these days you can buy four wire humbuckers of no-name brands for not much. Alnico and 4-wires are the things to look for. Here's one I found on Australian ebay: www.ebay.com.au/itm/403690691014?hash=item5dfdd719c6:g:NlkAAOSwXQthiOf6Or, you could try any SSS diagram. The simplest one, and likely very useful, would be just a neck-on switch. Very simple to add with no rewiring. Or, this is my favorite SSS, that I think would work for your HSS: guitarnuts2.proboards.com/thread/7117/strat-ssm3-series-parallel-switch

Hi John,
That's very helpful! I had no idea I could rewire the 2 wire humbucker into 4, and you're right, if it doesnt work, i can replace it for $30 CAD, with a wilkinson alnico 5 HB. I may give that a try, but also the SSM3 that you posted looks interesting too. I will weigh my options, and see, but I am leaning towards your favorite SSS wiring. And if that's not to my son's liking, I will probably buy a cheap splittable humbucker and do the SSM v2 version. I will post my results here, thank you again!
