for typical guitar wiring, in almost all circumstances, the tone pot should be a log taper Yogi B, what is the point of >=250K linear taper pots? They seem to not be good for volume and tone. (“good” refers to “appropriate and efficient and helpful” here)

Thanks to sumgai and Yogi B. I have wired the axe as per my interpretation of Sumgais most recent sketch. My interpretation is attached. Hope this is correct. The finished job has issues as I am getting loud interferance like a grounding noise. I have not assembled the whole wiring to axe yet, just tested the wiring setup. The interferance happens and becomes louder as the Gain is turned up on the Amp. Any suggestions> Regarding the pots Yogi B I will play around with that when I have the other issues sorted. Note This diagram is looking at the wiring from the underside, that is with the scratch plate lying face down on the workbenceh. vince20

vince20, perhaps the wiring is reversed at your jack. That’s a fairly common mistake; happened to me; and that does cause terrible noise. That’s not the only possible reason for noise, but this wiring-at-jack reversal is a big check during guitar noise troubleshooting.

Vince, OK, that's close, but there are two flaws, one minor and one major. The minor one is that the upper tone control for the Lead section says "Mid" but it's wired for the Neck, just as you requested, and as I drew it. Your wiring is correct for your initial request, it's only the label that's bogus. Second, all three tone control caps are going from their respective terminals to the pot's shell and that's OK. However, you also show the same terminal(s) as going directly to ground, and that's not good - those controls are now nearly switch-like volume controls. In my drawing, the caps go between the terminal(s) and ground. Since the shell is effectively ground, just remove the extra ground wires from those terminals. Make those changes, and you're good to go. HTH sumgai

I get it sumgai; The two horizontal lines above the ground symbol are capacitors.. I didn't know that, now learning. I knew that the caps had to go on but they are between the terminal and the ground;; Thanks. This may be the cause of the interferance noise I am getting. Can you look at the diagram sketch below and tell me which is the correct method. The neck (not mid) tone is ok with me. When I get this jag all hitched up I'll be able to hear the result and may make further comment then. Got to try and work out what Yogi B is getting at with the pot values.
