Greetings chat-mates... I'm turning blue combing the web for an exact & detailed rendering on how i employ either a Push/Pull or Push/Push Pot for my single tone pot to turn On or Off the Neck p/u. It's an SSS, 5-way, 1V,1T setup.. I want Neck off when Pot down, & on with Pot up. I think I had once done it successfully, but I'm have trouble deciphering the contacts. If you will, kindly include where my tone cap gets connected along with the whole shebang.... kindly & thnx in advance....
Best regards

zozoe had PM'd this question to me, and so I'll post the reply I sent to him here as well, for general reference. I am sure there are any number of diagrams both here and elsewhere to show you how to do this, it's a pretty standard mod. The wiring to the tone pot and its capacitor do not change.
1) Your push/pull switch (or push/push) will have 6 solder lugs arranged like the "sixes" on a pair of dice. The three lugs on the right side form one pole, the three on the left form the second pole. However, you will only be using one of the two, just three connections.
The center lug on each side is the "common" lug. With the knob pushed in, the common lug on each side connects to the lower lug on that side; with the knob pulled up, the upper lug (the one closest to the pot lugs) is connected to the common lug.
To do this:
1) Disconnect the neck + from its lug on the 5-way switch. Leave the neck negative connected to ground.
2) Solder the neck + wire to the center lug on one side of the push/pull switch.
3) Wire the lower lug on that side of the push/pull back to the 5-way switch, to the lug where you disconnected the neck +.
4) Run a wire from the upper lug of the push/pull to the Vol pot CCW lug (which will be the one that is connected to the 5-way and to the tone pot).
I can do a diagram if need be, but if you sketch this out I think you'll see how this goes. Basically, you are wiring the push/pull to switch the neck + between the 5-way switch, so that you have the normal 5-way selections with the push/pull down; with it up, the neck + is connected directly to output via the volume pot.

newey , I suspect you're misinterpreting the role of the push-pull in the modification our new member is attempting. Greetings chat-mates... Best regards If I understand correctly, you're looking to access two additional sounds not normally available on a Strat: Neck + Bridge and All Three pickups together. Is that correct? There are three ways to get there, a Neck-on switch, A Bridge-on switch, or a Neck-to-Bridge link switch. Personally I think the last is the least confusing but you can choose what you like best. I'll list the results of each. Neck-onPosition | Push-pull DOWN | Push-pull UP | 5 | Neck | Neck | 4 | Neck + Middle | Neck + Middle | 3 | Middle | Neck + Middle | 2 | Middle + Bridge | Neck + Middle + Bridge | 1 | Bridge | Neck + Bridge |
Bridge-onPosition | Push-pull DOWN | Push-pull UP | 5 | Neck | Neck +Bridge
| 4 | Neck + Middle | Neck + Middle + Bridge
| 3 | Middle | Middle + Bridge | 2 | Middle + Bridge | Middle + Bridge | 1 | Bridge | Bridge |
Neck-Bridge-linkPosition | Push-pull DOWN | Push-pull UP | 5 | Neck | Neck + Bridge
| 4 | Neck + Middle | Neck + Middle + Bridge | 3 | Middle | Middle | 2 | Middle + Bridge | Neck + Middle + Bridge | 1 | Bridge | Neck + Bridge |
Replacing standard pot with one that has a push-pull is usually fairly straight-forward, but it sounds like maybe you've lost track of the original wiring to the tone pot. If you upload a pic of your wiring in its present state, that would be helpful. Make sure it has the wiring to the pickup selector, since the layout of the lugs vary according to the manufacturer of the switch. Then we'll be able to determine which lugs of the pickup selector get the two new wires that will connect to the push-pull switch. We should be able to help you sort this out.
