Help with Wiring diagram

Hey guys, complete wiring noob here. Can someone please help with a wiring diagram for the following. I am almost done with a guitar build, and have the following:

3 x PAF Humbuckers, 4 wires each
3 x 500k Linear push/pull pods
1 x 3 way toggle switch (Gibson Style)
1 x 500k Linear pod
1 x 5 way blade type selector switch

So I want to do the following:

The standard pod needs to be for overall volume.

The 3 push/pull pods is one for each pickup.
Each pod must do its tone control, as well as coil split its allocated pickup.

The 3 way toggle switch must (if possible) give a bass boost in position 1, no effect in position 2 (centre), and trebble boost in position 3.

For the 5 way blade switch:
Position 1 - Bridge pickup only
Position 2 - Bridge and centre
Position 3 - Centre only
Position 4 - Centre and Neck
Position 5 - Neck pickup only


I have not ordered any capacitors ect, only the stuff on the list above, so I can order whatever I will still need.

I’m also NOT super skilled at wiring.

But, here are two thoughts to start you out:

1.) 4 pots (pot is potentiometer abbreviation) in circuit will cause treble to suffer. But, maybe they will present a wiring solution to only use 2 or 3 pots at anytime.

2.) You have push/pull for coil split… so if it’s pushed that will select the north or south coil of relative humbucker, and when it’s pulled that will use humbucker as a humbucker?

Yes, and some other info that could be useful along the way:

Magnetic polarity and coil winding direction (of each coil). These two properties work together for hum-cancelation and for controlling the relative phasing of the coils.

Wire colors, also for each coil. Anyone here who contributes a diagram can use the right colors if we know 'em.

There are good ideas on how to gather the two above sets of info in an earlier thread titled Testing phase - The Screwdriver Pull-off Test.

The idea of this post is to learn:
-which coils are which magnetic polarity
-which wire (which color) of each coil gets connected to the Negative of the meter in order to generate a negative pulse when screwdriver pull-off test is done (or Positive, as long as all coils give the same during the test)

Sorry if all this seems like it's getting in the way of obtaining your diagram. I'm very confident that you'll get at least one great diagram from GN2, and I think the above will improve the quality.

Whether testing your PAFs for polarity is necessary will depend on whether they are from the same manufacturer. If they are, we can assume that the manufacturers info as to N and S coils will apply consistently across the 3 pickups. If they are different, then testing will probably be necessary as stevewf suggested.

If the 3-way switch in question is a regular Gibson-style pickup selector toggle, I doubt that this is possible. Those are single pole switches, I think at a minimum you'd need a DPDT On-On-On toggle switch. These do exist in the same size as a Gibson toggle but may take a bit of legwork to source.

Everything else you want seems doable with the parts you have on hand, although we will need some more specifics about the 5-way switch you are using.

Yes I agree it's all fine, except for the intentions around the 3 way.

Setting aside which type of switch you need, you can't actually get a boost of bass, or treble, in a normally wired passive guitar unless
, with active electronics. All you can do is cut levels and frequencies. I'm sure you'd want one position to be the full pickups, not cut. You already have treble controls on each pickup, so maybe just a bass cut, with two levels? Or, a neck-on function to mix B and N? or maybe acseries option? Series does add volume.

Your 5 way is currently described as similar settings to a normal Strat, so it could be a normal Strat switch unless anything else emerges from the discussion here.

You could set the coil cuts so in all single-coil mode, the selected M coil is humcancellung with that of B and M.
