That "guy" is the avatar I used when I was in GuitarNuts I. No that isn't me. It is Randy California of Spirit - one of the most innovative guitar players of all time. Neither he nor his group Spirit ever achieved any kind of fame or money which is really sad because they were pretty darned good.
There will be no more chances for fame for Mr California because he drowned in a riptide off the coast of Molokai Hawaii in 1997 (heroically, he managed to save the life of hs son who happened to be swimming with him). His son managed to make it to shore, but Randy was swept out to sea (his body was never found).
It would be worth your while to look up information about Randy California and Spirit - a very underrated group.

Isn't he wanted for possesing weapons of math deduction? that is so witty! i realized how badly i wrecked the set-up on this one. i had seen this picture the first time quite a while ago, and asked Wolf or RH or someone if this was Wolf. i learned the story back then. when i saw it again, and posted it, i should have included something like: "can you hint at any clues, as to who this is, or which guitarnut used this picture. we could have played this game quite a while, without the need for setting the record straight. it was a sloppy oversight on my part, and Wolf, i'm sorry i didn't set it up better.i really did enjoy the way you guys hinted at it, without actually saying anything directly. i'll do better next time guys. i promise. unk

unklmickeyGeez, I guess I missed the point of your posting. (sorry) I ruined the whole thing by giving away the answer (and then some). I don't think I ever explained about the avatar in the old GuitarNuts forum. Well, everyone knows now. Anyway, anyone ever hear any songs by Spirit? ********************************************** Now that I think about it, if there were any justice in this world, if any guitar player had to die by drowning, instead of Randy California, why couldn't it have been this guy?

Wolf,
no need for apology. i set it up poorly, so it almost screamed for you to set the record straight.
Spirit was actually pretty popular musically, where i live. got lots of airplay. they just didn't seem to get the press some of the other bands got.
i wish no one ever died by drowning. but, the thought of that other guy getting a bath with a fire hose, doesn't bother me one little bit.
looks like i missed the party last night. 21 people on line. a new record.
