Everyone grab your axe, hold it so that you can look at all six strings with your monitor as a backdrop. IE, if your fretwire were to magically lengthen, it would stab you in the eye and stab your monitor screen as well. Now strum the thing open and watch the strings!

my guess is if you have an lcd monitor ... nothing.
with a crt monitor, you will probably see an interesting effect.
can't verify this, i'm still at work. lots of monitors of various flavors, but no guitars.

ah, i understand. with a crt monitor we should see the refreshing? should be even better with a tv set because of interlacing, but since i have got neither...
btw what are you doing at work at half past midnight? ;D (only joking)
/edit
oh wait. does it have something to do with strobe tuners?

I discovered this effect long ago. In my day, It could be viewed with an ancient Earth artifact known as a television. Granted, computer monitor images are more stable than television images that are constantly changing but the effect is there nonetheless. I always found it interesting playing notes up a string until you could get the "waves" almost standing still.

Aye. My 7 is tuned to low A, and my monitor's refresh rate is 80 HZ... so a couple of frets up and a slight bend and I can get it to sit still.

My wife's not here to make any "you have way too much time on your hands" comments, so I tried it. It didn't really do much. Tried with and without the bifocals; nah. Tried it with my 12-string and thought I felt a little blip in the space-time continuum, so I stopped. Maybe it's different with singlecoils?
;D

Since MSM's wife ain't around, I'll say it. Y'all have WAY too much time on your hands... She came back from her errands, and the cat and dog weren't under the bed, so she thought I hadn't been doing any Weird Guitar Tricks. Apparently she didn't notice that blip in the space-time continuum, either. ;D Is it possible that we're all easily amused?

cool beans, speaking of tv tricks point your remote at your pickups and push a button when pluged in. (lots of other things will do similer efects aswell)
