Ok I got another old 60's univox style sg guitar.. problem is that it's not loud enough.. what needs to be done to enhance the sound?
is it the stock pickups? not enough wound up wire? It' the two wire kind
is it the stock wiring? it's wired with red wire (don't know the gauge) and then wired with a very thin silver wire to pots as well I suspect it's this the problem? not enough load (gauge) wire being used?
It has the default pots (500k) with the capacitors.
how can I increase the sound output? would just replacing with heavier guage wire do the trick? I do have a bridge pickup (humbucker) I could add that would add some punch to it as well..
thxs in advance

NO, the wiring internal to the pickup is #42-44 AWG solid (around the thickness of hair). The output signal is in milliVolts, and the output current is in microAmps.
The external wiring does not need to be very thick. This isn't a speaker circuit (or a welder).
Maybe you just need a signal booster or an overdrive pedal.
It could, like just have weak pickups. Maybe the magnets have lost their magnetization, or have become weak over time. Consider replacing the pickups as well.
Or, get a bigger/badder/better amp. ;D

...It could, like just have weak pickups.... yup, that's prolly what it be like. maybe them pickemups were wimpy, even from day one. but ifn they're 3/4" away from the strings, even hot ones will sound sorta castrated. check the pickup height first, but i suspect yer gonna be doin' some shoppin'. unk
