Nope, should be..............for the reasons that you give. I CAN find probable candidates for downsizing into 3P6T rotary switches, but while vintage is, correct ain't. www.surplussales.com/Switches/SWSealed-1.htmlAnd price is.

I have two 78 L6-S Customs and trying to wire to specs. The photo diagram in link below shows a total of 6 wires entering from cavity hole, both pickups having 3 wires each, R,O,B colors on each. One of mine has total of 5 wires, the other a total of 4. Did previous owners molest them, Or did Bill L. make different models? Does anyone know? www.vintageguitarandbass.com/gibson/L6S_schematic.php

Hello and Welcome to G-Nutz2!
Possible that yours were replaced, particularly since the info says both pickups were 3-wire types.
Also note that yours are 1978s, as you say, and the info is for a 1976 model. Things might have changed.
When you say one pickup is "5 wire" and the other is 4, are you counting a bare shield wire for each? And, have you pulled the pickups to look for a serial no. or other info on the underside?
