I've finally decided what I want to do cosmetically with my beloved 7-string Schecter axe. My plans for it revolve around making it look corroded, and decayed, like the dark worlds in the game series (and recently, the movie) Silent Hill. I'm unsure as of yet what I will do with the paintjob and the top, but I do know that I plan on intentionally corroding a lot of the hardware, and causing "rust stains" to run down the front of the guitar from places of decay, when it's in playing position. Here are some screenies depicting the environs in the SH series, characters, and the like... www.gamerevolution.com/oldsite/previews/screens/silent_hill2/silent_hill2_1b.jpg^ This sceenie is from the light world, but still displays some of the characteristics; disrepair and vandalism. There is a much darker world that you encounter in the game, as it switches between the two. www.animeboredom.co.uk/Uploads/Greview/7121108856173.jpgNot as high res, but as you can see, corrosion and blood are common mainstays... www.crunkgames.com/reviews/ps2/sh3/media/sh3-150.jpgAnother darkie... www.marsgame.com/Article/UploadFiles/200462154019734.jpgAnyone who's actually played the game to any extent will get the idea a lot better than these pictures can show. But I basically want to make it look like my guitar came from that twisted dark world in Silent Hill...

RH, doo de, doo da, doo de, doo da - Your next stop, the Twilight Zone. ;D Or, stop by www.reranch.com instead, a bit less daunting. They have all manner of ways to make things look like what they aren't, and they sell some products that should achieve the look you're after. HTH sumgai

Hard to know what to say about this esthetic. What happend to rockers that painted naked ladies on their pieces?
Perhaps you could bolt on some sheet metal and expose it to caustic acids. the only thing I would worry about functionally, is that some of those hardware parts are dependent on adjustability --- and corroding screws, nuts, and movable parts would like compromize fucntionallity.

wow that brings back memories. i might be getting a little off-topic here, an aquaintance of mine, a keyboard player, (okay thats a lot off-topic) was a pretty good player, but what was noteworthy about him: he was totally uninhibited. -- a complete maniac (i mean that in a good way) he had a beautiful Hammond B3. the woodgrain and the finish was stunning. airbrushed on the front, for all to see, were flames emanating from a ........ well,......... let's just say, almost nobody who has posted on these boards has one. i used to blush, just being in the same room with that thing, when girls were around. i hear these days he has kids, and has become "respectable". the front is now painted flat-black. pity.

Doesn't Zakk Wylde have a Les Paul that has beer caps hammered into the body and then was torched??? I was reading an article by John Gleneicki, that "Paint Your Own Guitar" guy, who sells an ebook on how to reproduce Zakk's Bullseye LP... Once all the painting and finishing was done, he goes on to show how you can try to hammer beer caps into it, and burn it with a torch... Just seems like a waste to me. But hey, different strokes...
