the Gibson 3-way switch.
i love it !
'cause it's soooooooooo easy to hit any of the 3 positions.
even easier than a tele switch.
and it has a great "feel".
but i hate it !
'cause it's only a single pole.
and there just aint no superswitch (or megaswitch) replacement to get you more poles.
so what do YOU love and hate, all at the same time?

Alright, this should be fun. Come on down to Door Number One!
Love: The Strat because parts are ubiquitous and cheap, it is so easy to mod and exchange parts in, and upgrade, or downgrade.
Hate: the Strat because "where's the Beef." Thin weak-kneed sound when compared to Certified Angus 11 lb Les Paulina.
------------------------------------
Love: the 5 way Stat Switch, up - down, what's that remind me of? Hate: the 5 way strat switch, and Leo's 3 way even more. What's so hard about 2 more position and 50 more poles? Eh? -- Come on Gunter, just 2 more postions. puhleeezzze.
----------------------------------
Love: lacquer finishes because they are so much easier to repair, and so purty when new. Hate: Lacquer finishes because they are so easy bump and scrape and necessitate repairs.
----------------------------------
Love: Mini toggles. Up/down, hey what's that remind me of. Hate: Soldering mini toggles, who has eyes that good and little praying mantis fingers that small?
-----------------------------------------
Love: Sunburst finishes, tobacco not tri-color. Hate: Sunburst finishes because too many people love them too.
-----------------------------------------
Love: My Les Paul Hate: My Les Paul because GN2 has taught me there is so much more, yet I can't bring myself to update her. Oh Pauline, forgive me.
------------------------------------------
Love: Humbuckers. Big, Searing, Beefy just like a Texan liked it. Hate: Humbuckers. One trick ponies, and split they still don't sound like a Start.
----------------------------------
Love: RuneWalker. He's so loving and kind Hate: Runewalker. He's such a provocative snot.
I was going to put Unk in there but he's too sensitive. But you could insert any of the resident smart@sses on the board. We all take turns. Can't you just feel the love?

wow, i thought this idea might have some possibilities, but i had NO IDEA! if this that was any indication, this thing will have legs. Rune, ... Love: RuneWalker. He's so loving and kind Hate: Runewalker. He's such a provocative snot. I was going to put Unk in there but he's too sensitive. But you could insert any of the resident smart@sses on the board. We all take turns. Can't you just feel the love?that kinda reminded me of a bit in an Eddie Murphy routine: "...Mahcul Jackson is soooooooo sehnsutif....." ewwww! i know ya didn't mean it that way, but, ...........ewwwwww! so, in an inadvertent way i guess you did tag me for my turn. the other day, i called you even more perverted than unk. without even trying, you just called me as perverted as........................ewwwww! i've gotta go take a shower, NOW! unk

Haha! This could get good. I've got a little two cents:
Love: Floyd Roses. Stay-in-tune, whammy-liciousness! A lot meatier-sounding than Strat trems, for sure. Hate: Floys Roses. I have NEVER encountered any mechanical device that was more of a pain in the arse to maintain and adjust!

Due to a massive failure in the creative department at the moment (which happened right after I read what Runewalker is remined of so much!), I have to resort to giving a straight answer to unklmickey. But don't worry kids, tomorrow is a new day, and who knows what'll trigger my brainfart mode!
Unk, in another thread here we've discussed the switch used by Gibson in the LP Custom (3 pickups). That unit has an extra leaf set that effectively is a pole, albeit in one direction only. It seems to me that by salvaging at least two of those "extra" contact leaf sets, one could build up a frame to derive at least a DP3T, and possible more.
Just a thought, that's all.

love: free floating wilkinson. upbends, downbends, dive bombs, all that with much less PITA than floyd rose hate: free floating wilkinson. you just can't fingerbend properly with a free floating vibrato.
love: active pickups. almost no hum, hifi sound hate: active pickups. hifi sound, battery changing

Love- Fender Stratocaster. More of your personal tone and technique come through, they dont mud up like a Les Paul. You cant hide behind single coils, you hear every ping & snarl. Humbuckers are more foregiving. Hate- The fact that I sold my Les Paul years ago! Just holding a Les Paul made you feel soooo cool!

Mine's a little more obscure. My first and most valuable guitar is a Shergold Masquerader - a piece of quirky but excellent English craftsmanship from the 1970's. It has two Hbs, a gorgeous neck and some wild crazy switching. Figuring it out was what got me into this hobby. I love it.
What I hate about it is that it has two pots, each of 100k, for volume and tone. The Tone is wired with outer lugs hot to ground, so together there is a 50k load permanently on the pickups. This saps the tone hugely, and yet it is part of the Shergold sound and I have not wanted to change it since it is a part of history. Frustrating...

I loved it: My (former) Aria Diamonds 5120 Hollow Body Electric Bass (ES 335 style) back from my HS days (decades ago). Best intonation of almost any Bass I've owned (i.e. it was almost impossible to screw the intonation up). Here's a shot of a later model: Ultra-playable. but I hated it: Because it was too bright and tinney for Jazz Band (even after rewiring it and removing the PU covers). Fellow band members said it was dorky. Sadly and stupidly, traded it for a Jazz Bass copy Love it: Fender Bullet 150, too much fun & coolness in a practice amp. Hate it: Plastic jacks and non-indexed effects control. Love it: Sabine Contact AutoTuner Hate it: Tacky pad requires constant cleaning (not to mention the guitars it's used on).

Love: Tele's. -- Simple, sweet sounding, great sound Hate: Telle's -- can only sound like a Tele
Love: My Kramer DMZ6000B Bass -- The ultimate, perfect beast! Hate: My Kramer DMZ6000B Bass -- It's too heavy to play for longer than 2 songs!

at the request of unklmickey
Love: Radio Shack, cause they're always 5 min from the house and will usually have what you need in a pinch. Hate: Radio Shack, overpriced everything, salesdrones that only want to "sell you Cell", Pioneer rejects rebadged as "Optimus", What I need in a pinch never seems to be on sale.

the single coil NECK pickup on my MIM Strat.
i love it !
'cause it's soooooooooo smooth, yet articulate when playing leads in the middle of fretboard.
but i hate it !
'cause on the rare occasion that i get up to the 20th or 21st fret,
it magically becomes my icepick-in-the-forehead BRIDGE pickup.

Love - I love vintage tuners and Fender guitars. If it ain't got those vintage tuners, it just doesn't feel like a Fender. Hate - Floyd Rose systems. Just too much hassle to change strings. I'm a simple man

NEWBIES. i love 'em ! 'cause they bring a fresh point of view to the forum. they're so very valuable to us. but i hate 'em !'cause sometimes they don't read the first post of a thread, and i don't always have the heart to tell them that they've missed the whole point of the thread.
