Years ago, one of the warm-up anouncers on a game show I was shooting had a bit he liked to do... He would announce to the audience, very seriously..."the pages have found a wallet. It seems to have $500 in it. " After a short pause..."would the owner please form a double line..."
That has been my response in trying to locate one of Brian Jones' original Vox Phantoms...It seems quite a few people have one, or know of one. Now realizing that Brian was the Vox "poster boy" back then, I am sure he was given quite a few of them. But I don't think the companies were quite as generous back then as they are now. And from what we know of Brian, probably quite a few were lost, broken, or discarded. Perhaps some of you have an idea. Are they with the family? A museum? Or lost forever? Brian was my first idol. It's such a shame his life and music went the way that it did. Finding one of his instruments would be very special...

Okay, here's another joke for you to use. Helen Hunt in our lost and found department has found a wallet. So, if you have lost your wallet, you can go to "Helen Hunt" for it. (say it out loud).
Getting serious here - didn't Brian Jones also use the VOX Mark VI guitar? (The tear-drop shaped model).
I could be wrong about this, but wasn't the VOX Phantom immortalized by Phil Volk of Paul Revere and the Raiders who always played a VOX Phantom bass?

Wolf. Sort of. The teardrop, which Brian was very much associated with, is the Phantom Mk III. The more angular version is the Phantom Mk VI. Looking for both...

Deep, Thanks for looking. I don't think I will find my guitar in a music store. Remember, I am not looking for a Vox Phantom like Brian Jones' played. I am looking for one of Brians' guitars! I expect it will be in the hands of a collector somewhere. And probably they will want a small fortune for it. The quest continues......

I remember reading about "his" VOX guitar some years ago. I believe "The One" that we see him playing in photos was an early prototype of the teardrop body. If I remember correctly (what are the odds of that??) there was a lot more body between the bridge and the strap button than on the production models. Take a look at the photos here and follow the links. Maybe you'll get some good information there. images.google.ca/images?q=brian+jones+vox&hl=en&btnG=Search+Images I can't seem to get that to stay together. Copy and paste the entire line into your browser rather than trying to click on it. :-)

Servant, Thanks! Looks like that's the one. I do remember it being at the Hard Rock in NY for awhile, so I think the info is correct. Probably makes more sense to be in London however. At least it's probably in good hands now... But alas, not mine!

The three-pickup model appears to be a Mark VI. I haven't seen a pic of Brian with that one, only the two-pickup Mark III (see brianjones.galeon.com/fans.htm) and that very-short-scale twelve string.

Is it just me or is that the guitar from back to the future? You know where Micheal J Fox stands in front of the 8 to 10 foot speaker and hits one note and the speaker blows out. His guitar only had one pickup but it looks alot like that Vox in the ad.
