Okay, so I finally got around to refretting my underwater '68 Tele and it's on the guitar and playing great... except the damn truss rod is vibrating like crazy! I had the same problem years ago with a '78 Precision Bass and I ended up selling that. No such luck here. It needs to get fixed. The neck is perfect. Any tension on the truss rod makes it perfectly straight (bad) and the buzzing continues. It would be best if I could just remove the rod from the neck, but how? Many thanks. - TB

as a matter of fact the same question was asked yesterday at a german guitar forum. a luthier answered that it depends if the fretboard is glued then you can possibly steam it off the neck, then replace the trussrod. if the trussrod is set from behind (skunk stripe) then you have to mill the skunkstripe out, replace the trussrod and glue a new skunkstripe in. if you understand german just read it up here: forum.musikding.de/yabbse/index.php?topic=6551.0

Okay, that's really depressing! It would have been method #2 but I'm not going anywhere near there. I have just realized that a bit more truss rod tension cures the vibration, so it will be left there and I will level the frets accordingly. A much simpler solution. Thanks for the info, dunkelfalke. I'm glad I sold the Precision.
