hi guys...
any experience with guitar hangars (string swing etc) ??
do you feel that they properly hang the guitar ... without straining the neck / body junction ??
and preferences on the wall-mount version vs. the one that hangs from the handle on the side of the equipment racks or speakers.. ??
thanks..

String Swings are great, and just about any other brand that does the same thing is fine for your guitar if it's sturdy. It certainly won't hurt your neck pocket, just be sure to keep the dust off them by putting picks and fingers on the strings regularly...

No worries on the neck-to-body join integrity, if a guitar can't support its own weight in this passive manner it won't stand up to much gigging. One thing to watch is the cushioning on the forks, some cheaper hangars have foam or rubber based padding that have plasticisers which help keep the padding soft. These can (and will) migrate into some guitar finishes and cause cracking, discoloration and deterioration of the lacquer where the forks rest against the neck. Cover them in a natural fibre like cotton or wool and protect the finish of the guitar.

I cover the forks on my stands and hangers with (I think appropriately) the material from my most ancient concert T-Shirts.
Make sure you put your hanger in a stud, that could be the real damage to your axe; if it fell because you didn't properly mount your hanger.

yeah, im w/ ux on that one. i have a copule of string swings on my wall. there actually hung off a cement wall, cause its in a basement. i was a sleep one night and i woke up the the single most horrible sound ever. it was the sound of one of my axes(my epi bass if im not mistaken) ripping the anchor out of the cement wall then falling through a xerox that i happened to pick up at work the week before. thank god the xerox was there, because it saved my bass. granted, i had to clean up all of the broken glass from the xerox, but it was very worth it. also, i would suggest putting a blanket or somthing behind the hangers. this is for extra padding incase you bump the guitar while it is hanging.

Guitar Center puts a pretty little diamond of carpet on the walls where the backs of their acoustics will be resting.
