hi having problems with my es-335 copy (tanglewood memphis). The output jack has came off it's wire!! well it was hanging on barely. I searched the forums here for any hints or tips, or even a wiring diagram, but to no avail. So does anyone know how to put an output jack back onto it's wire?? cheers

hi Jumpinjazzflash,
welcome to Guitarnuts2.
you're not gonna get any sound from your guitar with the jack off.........er, uh, i mean disconnected.
it should be a pretty easy job to solder the wires back on.
you probably have a shielded (braided outer conductor) cable going to the jack.
the outer conductor goes to the tab that is connected to the "ring".
the inner conductor goes to the tab that is connected to the piece that extends farthest away from the threaded part of the jack.
if that makes sense, no need to go further.
if it doesn't let us know and someone will draw you a picture.
cheers,
unk

unk, I think our new guy means that the whole assembly (the entire cable) has become detached from the jack, not just one of the conductors. jjf, Hi, and to the forums. The question I have for you is, where's the cable that connects to the jack? Is it stuck up inside the body, hding from you and resisting all efforts to extract it, or is it already outside where you can get your hands on it? sumgai

unk, Ya know, I coulda swore that you said "wire" as in singular, not "wires" as in plural. As soon as I saw that I must've taken the rest of the day off, brain-wise. Like I said, I was in a bit of a hurry. Gig's over, I'm sitting back, and thanking the Good Lowered Harry that I wasn't driving in the rain when I pulled that hare-brained stunt. D4mn, I gotta go get checked for Alzheimer's. sumgai

initially the jack stopped responding to a plugged in lead. so eventually i unscrewed the jack from the front so i could take a closer look to see if a little solder might do the trick........ the whole plug needs put back on now. and would have needed to be taken off restripped and re-soldered anyway. so i haven't made anything worse!!! lol just need to know what goes where. there is only ONE single wire that i can see that was attached to the jack plug when i unscrewed it but even on making the wire touch the pluggy bit contact there was no sound through the amp from it. i included a couple of pics (hope that's ok)

Well, it sure looks like (clues are) the braided outside conductor (that there shield) goes to the left terminal in the pic (the outside of the jack barrel electrically) which contacts the barrel part of the guitar cable (SLEEVE).
The inside conductor (which will be a white wire since the right terminal has the remains of a white wire still attached - clues are) goes to the spring tab thingy that contacts the tip conductor on the guitar cable (TIP).
Done is.

the white wire on the jack plug was connected to the left terminal then wired further to the right terminal in the 2nd pic and then the grey wire was connected to the bottom of the left contact (you can see a little of the attached wire still on the inside on the left).
