Gold plating is usually only a few thousandths of an inch thick. It will vary producer to producer, but it is not really durable. Of course, the better your guitar stays in tune, the less wear on the tuners. ;-) I think that the bridge finish will last longer. If you want to wipe off fingerprints use a VERY soft cloth and be gentle - do not scrub. Never use any type of polishing compound. A little rubbing alchohol on the cloth is OK. When and if the finish ever does wear off, the best bet is probably replacement. It is possible to replate the tuners, but the cost would rival replacement. How long will the finish last? Not even Stevie could know. But it's a great guitar, dont let it worry you and enjoy playing it!

Well, I wish I could give you a more definitive answer, but I spent 20 years in the jewelry business (as a tech) and there's just no way to know. I am sure that Fender is using the best quality available so it shouldn't wear off very easily. Real cheap plating will peel, but I doubt you'll ever see that happen. I guess the big thing is not to rub it off by excessive polishing. Just use a light touch to keep it clean and it should look great for years.
