I have a new pickguard for my 70's Strat. It comes plain-Jane from Fender. Should I put aluminum foil on the backing before I install it? If not foil, what do you suggest?

Should I put aluminum foil on the backing before I install it? If not foil, what do you suggest? Deep, I have used aluminum duct tape (the metal tape, not metalized cloth) and have been very happy with the degree of shielding and the ease of use. I use two layers. Dan P.S. bummer about your recent guitar woes, man

Deep, I would definitely shield the back of the pickguard before installing. Even if your pup cavities etc are not shielded, do the pickguard now and you won't have to do it later. I used copper foil tape on my Tele but I have heard of good results from using aluminum foil and spray adhesive. The aluminum is definitely going to be less expensive.

Thanks dd842... I see youre from Ontario. Do you use Long & Mcquade much? Here we dont have much choice do we? lol! You're welcome! I coincidentally just shielded a strat over the weekend - I am amazed at the difference between before and after. I have not been to L&M much ... but only because there are two shops more local to me. When I do visit L&M, I am impressed with the selection - and price, of course - and the service area seems good. But I just don't buy enough of anything to justify making the trek ... a new set of strings every so often maybe. I usually go to St. John's Music (decent selection ... but new stuff only, and I can't say I have that much of a warm and fuzzy feeling about the degree of knowledge or service they would be able to provide), and I really like The Twelfth Fret (AWESOME guys there, especially upstairs in the service department - they really know their stuff, and the selection is fair ... lots of cool vintage stuff too). But yeah, L&M is certainly top of mind for most every musician in T.O. I would think. All the best Dan
