Based on a review in Vintage Guitar, I picked up a copy of "The Electric Guitar Sourcebook" by Dave Hunter ($25 at Borders).
This minor tome purports to discuss the tonal effects of the many different pieces that make up an electric guitar along with the different tonal results of many varied electric guitar models.
It includes a CD to demonstrate the tonal differences (of each guitar type).
I've made it thru the "pieces" part and only discovered a couple of errors and the need for a few clarifications that would be most helpful to the average (non-electrical engineer) guitarist.
I'm hopeful that the rest of it is equally well done, and that the CD goes far in showing what "middy" and "warm" and "Stratty" and "twangy" really mean.
While I'd prefer substantially more information and detail, this is written for musicians and not the compulsive engineering types such as myself. As a result, it has a lot of words and few numbers. It is more of an overview than a detailed how-to guide.
