I have a new acuostic guitar, who's soundplate was drilled by dummies at the factory! They didn't use a backup block when they drilled it,and allot of the soundplates"s holes are splintered and screwed up.I saw platemate, but 20.00 for a small piece of brass??I was thinking of going to the local trophy shop and see if I could get a 1/8" or 3/16" thick plate for a couple bucks and make my own version?

Hey Bigaldo! If it's a new acoustic, shouldn't you take it back to whoever sold it to you. The onus is surely on them to get it sorted. I work in a guitar store and encourage people to come back when they have problems like this. However, I installed a platemate today on an old G series Takamine with a very badly worn Bridgeplate. It wasn't worth replacing the plate, but at $20, the Platemate did the job nicely! If the plate is worn as badly as you say, it's a cheap fix. If your tooled up to machine your own 'Platemate' go for it. The real Platemate is pretty easy to fit though, and has the adhesive already on it. I still recommend returning the guitar to sender though!

No its not brand new,but looking at it you would think so.I got a 2 year old Fender acc. off Craigs list in my same small town.Guy I bought it off of should me a recipt that was 2 years old.It looks brand new,is setup nice,I am sure it had the orginal factory strings on it.I went to change strings after pulling pins.Took mirror and light to look around inside, check bracing, glue cleanup etc. When I got to sound plate"some people call it bridge plate, pad"saw bad splintering ,and sloppy drilling without a backup block.I could glue a thin maple patch over it,and redrill and taper ream it right,or go with a platemate type setup.I think I am gonna go with the platemate type 1st without glue,if I like it and it doesn't effect the sound to much,I'll make it permant.
