(EDIT: moved to Lutherie and Repair by sumgai, 07/29/07)
When I play my B or G string right after I play it I get a ringing tone. This common. I've lowered my pickups tried equing it out. Can't seem to get rid of it. Most noticable on clean chords. Thanks

bluesy,
Hi, and welcome to the Forums! ;D
If the ringing occurs
- only on the open B and G strings, then suspect the nut; - anywhere along the neck, then suspect the bridge saddles. - only on certain frets of the neck, then suspect raised frets, or a twisted neck.
At the bridge, a string that cuts too deeply into the saddle will seem to resonate (ring) more than usual. On the neck, a raised fret is hard to tell from some angles, so look from all directions. And the nut is a bit easier to see if it's the problem, just compare the slots for your problem children with the other string slots. Too deep or two wide will cause the problems noted.

Well for some reason i decided I wanted my high E side up alittle. Felt like it was alittle low for my taste. On that side turned the screw up 1/2 turn it raised the strings alittle and I liked it. But also became aware the ringing was gone. Who can figure.

bw,
Good going! Ain't in nice when a plan comes together?! ;D
I think you had a case of the strings being too close to some of the frets, that's all.
And to top it off, now you can play slide guitar even more easily! ;D
