My Les Paul guitar goes out of tune after playing for a few minutes. Its seems to happen more after bending strings(before you ask, yes the strings have been stretched in). I think the strings are getting caught up in the nut. I read somewhere that they used to oil the nut. My other good guitars have roller nuts and locking nuts, so ive never had this prob before. Anyone else had this problem?

You can put pencil lead because it is graphite in the slot and see if that helps. I know guys who have done that for a temporary fix to find out if that was the problem. Good Luck

i am also familiar w/ the pencil method. are you sure that the tuners are good? do your nut slots need filed? youre not having any problems w/ the strings slipping out of the saddles are you?

>> are you sure that the tuners are good? The tuners are not of great quality. I didnt suspect the tuners at first as i just assumed that they would be stable.
>> do your nut slots need filed? thats what i thought because the strings sit tightly in the nut. but after a closer look there should be enough room for the strings to slide through.
>> youre not having any problems w/ the strings slipping out of the saddles are you? the strings sit in the saddle slots quite well. The whole bridge area seems pretty solid and stable.
>> what material is the nut made from? The nut material is nylon. Its very hard but probably doesnt have the slip factor of bone or graphite.
first thing to do is to put some lead on the nut. I also noticed that i didnt put enough wraps on the tuner posts(im used to locking tuners). Maybe this is the major cause(almost certainly). I will eventually replace the tuners with grovers or something. That should see it playing in tune.

i was just asking as i have had this problem w/ les paul copies and the tuners were a bit loose.....
if you would like, you could still file the nut just to be safe.... and youre correct, nylon does not have the slip factor of bone or graphite.
the not putting enough wraps around the peg could definitely have something to do with it. the guitarist i work on during my current project never puts his strings on properly and has this exact problem....

>>> not putting enough wraps around the peg <<< I cant believe i made such a silly mistake. This is something people learn when beginning to play guitar. Its so easy to forget the simple things.

But I'll hanged if I can recall what the hell the topic is we're talking about here..... can ya help a brother out? ;D sumgai

>>> not putting enough wraps around the peg <<< for me i find that using the least amount of string, 1 or 2 wraps keeps me in tune, when i started playing i wrapped the string alot and it kept going out of tune

...I can still remember the phone number of the first house I grew up in, starting from the time I was about 4 years old... But way back then, phone numbers were only 3 digits long. How hard could it be to remember?
