I have a customer with a US 1989 Strat with an LSR nut and Locking Tuning Gears. The customer has lost 5 of the 6 locking knobs from the back of the gears over the years. He can't afford right now to buy a new set, and I am looking into sourcing replacement locking knobs. I am aware that Allparts sell both Schaller and Sperzel replacement locking knobs, but I am unsure of what Fender were using in the late 80's and if they are of an old design, which would render the new replacements, unusable!! Can anybody help me out with this info, as Fender in the US have not answered any emails from me and Fender UK (where I am!) have no idea. Thanks in advance, Dar

Dar, I'd make sure that I could return unused parts, then order both! Returning what didn't fit would keep the costs down, albeit the return postage might be a bit iffy (read: costly) for lightweight stuff like those knobs. But the principle stands - order more than you need, and return what you don't need. Oh, and Sperzel and Schaller aren't the only makers of locking tuners.... there's Gotoh and a bunch of others, check Google before doing anything else. Fender could have been using almost anything, that far back. HTH sumgai
