Ok, I'm reposting this here after reading the other posts about single coils. I'm hoping for any specific information you can give.
Ok, well I've now checked out many, many more on-board guitar effect devices and I've realized that before I want to start worrying about on-board effects, I want to change out the pickups on my Mexi Strat (the guitar I want to start adding effects to). The problem is, there are about a thousand different brands and subtypes within those brands of single coil pickups. Here's what I want in terms of sound. 1) I want crispness and clarity, so when I crank this guitar it will wail instead of wallow. (maybe this is an amp issue) 2) I don't like the muddy, mid-heavy sound. I want my leads to pierce but my chords to have a good low and mid end 3) I like overdrive more than distortion, and I'd like my guitar to have a good, clean sound that would work well with a modded TS-5 tube-screamer.
Ok, I know I'm going out on a limb here, but does anyone have any advice on pickups I should try? Brands, types within those brands, even general types of single coils? I know NOTHING about pickups, besides the difference between a humbucker and a single coil. Help me out here. Thanks.

I saw your post in Electronics and Wiring, and replied there. Too long-winded to copy-and-paste here, but do check out those MP3s at Acme Guitar Works. Good pups into a good Tube Screamer is definitely Where It's At™. Go for it!

I'd suggest my personal fav, the Fender Gold Lace Sensor. Or if your pocket is thick enough, have a Kinman AVn MkII.. Good luck !

I just shielded my Strat using the QTB mod and installed these pickups:
Bridge - Seymour Duncan Twangbanger Mid - Seymour Duncan RW/RP APS-2 Flat Neck - Seymour Duncan APS-2 Flat
This is the best my guitar ever sounded. The clean tone in all positions is great. Very full sound. The Twangbanger in the bridge is a great pickup and works nicely with the other 2. With overdrive it screams and has nice sustain. Also has nice bottom end.
I also cranked it up with heavy distortion and though its not a set up for metal, it still sounded really heavy...And very surprisingly quiet! (thanks to the QTB)
It finally has the Strat sound i was looking for. It can go from Gilmour to Knopfler to Clapton very easily and still get nasty if you need it to.
Hope this helps Jason.

As a point of reference, how does your Mexi-Strat sound to you? Also, is your user name no where is my home or now here is my home?

Chris, No, I wouldn't say that. Particularly since unklmicky didn't say anything of the sort to me last year! ;D sumgai p.s. Much as I would like to embarass myself and post the link where unk pinned my ears back, the Search function has proven itself worthless in this regard. Hence I have no reference for you, sorry.
