The Seymour Duncan Everything Axe Single Coil Set has an SJBJ-1b JB Jr. for the bridge with an SDBR-1n Duckbucker in the middle, and an SL59-1n Little '59 for the neck. I just purchased these and the wiring diagram says to use the 250k pots. I thought you should use 500k pots for humbuckers. I know they are mini but will it affect the sound with the 250k pots? I'm looking for a really low end crunch sound. I know that has alot to do with my amp and all, but it all starts at the pickups.

cp, I'd say, go with their recommendations, at first. Apropos the "value of pot matches pup style' line of reasoning, it would seem that here's a case where the user preferences might override the normal school of thought. You said that you want a really low end crunch. Well, all a 500K pot will do is let a few more highs through, then it's cranked up to 10. For most folks, that's a necessity with most humbuckers. In your case, I'm not sure that such is needed. That's why I say, go with SD's values first. After all, the name of the game, particularly for us GuitarNutz, is experimentation. If you don't like the sound of the 250K pots, then change 'em out. But if you do like the sound, then you'll have saved yourself some time and effort. And that's always a good thing. sumgai

Yep, I like the experimentation side of it. It's also easy to change pots, guess I just needed some good ol' fashioned back up. It's hard to think out of the box sometimes. Thanks

I just recently put a set of the DS everything axe pickups in a strat of mine, I used the wiring diagram as stated in the SD website, liked it at first but not just exactly right, went back in and changed capacitor from a .047 as recommended in wiring diagram to a .033 and now it is perfect for me. I would not recommend any other changes except for the capacitor.

Hello and welcome!
You've resurrected 3 older posts about SD pickups, and I gather that you have several different Strats with varying SD pup combinations.
So, stick around, you're obviously one of us Nutz already!

Glad to be here, right now I have 7 strats, 3 teles, 1- 1965 original mustang, an LP, Ibanez, A 1965 Silverton model 1488 in PERFECT condition, and several acoustics and a bass. am building a custon telecaster putting in a set of the P Rails with the wiring to switch from single coils to humbuckers to P 90's, have the body and neck almost finished and about ready to start on the wiring, willl post pics as progress moves a little further along. I do love my strat with the everything axe pickups in it, I have the push pull switch to go all single with normal 5 way switching or push switch down and have all humbuckers with the normal 5 way switching.

I must be living under a rock because this is the first time I ever heard of an "Everything Axe". Ten years ago I decided to replace the Blue/Silver/Red Lace pickups in my '91 Strat Plus Deluxe with Seymour Duncans and went with the Lil'59/Duckbucker/JB Jr combo. I used 250K push-pull pots, a .022 cap and a standard 5-way switch. Since the Lil'59 & JB Jr use 4-wires, I used the tone pots' DPDT switches to run those pups' coils in parallel while in the down position and series in the up position. (I tried splitting the pups first, but I didn't like the volume drop or the hum). The DPDT switch on the volume pot was used as a "neck on" switch. While I love the Lil'59 & Duckbucker, I was never thrilled with the JB Jr's sound. I told myself that someday I'd replace it. 10 years later and I still haven't gotten around to it.

The "Everything Axe" is kept hidden along with the 65 mpg automobile. God forbid that anyone would think that one guitar could do "everything". ;D After all, no one would then need wiring help with anything......
